The story begins with the importance of money in a person's life. With the introduction of the rich East Egg, Nick is invited to have dinner in the luxurious East side. The song relates to how there are two different "teams"- one rich, and another poor, similar to The Great Gatsby's theme of money. Tom and Daisy even states that money "makes the world go 'round". Chapter 2
This can be seen in the quotation “the dollars Joe rolls in the door are a sign of the homecoming that he regards as the happiest aspect of his life and a symbol of how much he values Missie May” (“The Gilded Six Bits”). The author is explaining that Joe puts dollars under the door when he comes home from work. In the story, the symbolism shows in the quote “but she knew that it was her husband throwing silver dollars in the door for her to pick up and pile beside her plate at dinner” (Hurston). This quote conveys that Joe values

Some people think that money can buy happiness, but it does not give anything more. (BS-1) In the book Fahrenheit 451, Montag, the main character, lives in a society where people are obsessed with the materials around them.
“Money can’t buy happiness.” “Money isn’t everything, its just paper.” Anyone who has ever grown up without money and lamented about it has heard these kinds of phrases many times. In looking around our culture and society today it would be hard to say those statements are true. While everyone has problems, rich and poor alike, having money gives you access to more solutions to those problems.
Through another list, she offers her observant insight of what’s true success. Going into detail, “the way the wild wrens sang though they hadn’t a penny in the bank,” (ln 10). Using personification, she inserts the liveliness of the forest while acknowledging how the wrens were able be happy without money. The school system trains young adults to think the opposite, that you in fact need money to obtain happiness. Conversely to stanza 2, stanza 4 starts with repetition of the phrase “the way the” showing observation and insight of her surroundings, nevertheless time implying that the reader knows what she’s talking about because it was beyond words.
The beginning of the poem implies the land, mines, office towers, and factories belong to the rich, but the end of the poem implies all these things belong to the American people as a whole. The most obvious display of repetition is at the beginning and end of the poem. In the beginning of the poem, it says, “That the land might be ours, And the mines and factories and the office towers” (Lines 14 and 15). It goes on to say “That the plants and the roads and the tools of power be ours” (Line 17). The second example of this repetition is at the end of the poem, “Takes land, Takes factories, Takes office towers, Takes tools and banks and mines” (Lines 58-61).
We are faced with another encounter with the symbol of money in the author’s note when Jon describes Chris’ life talking about how he belonged to a family which was well off, here the symbol of money plays a vital role towards understanding Chris’ personal morals as money isn’t as valued to him as the rest of society (Chris’s disconnect from society is shown again). Money comes up again towards the beginning of the story in Chapter 1 when Chris is
William Hazlitt composed his passaged, “On the Want of Money” to express that “one cannot get on well in the world without money”. Although many believe money is not necessary to be happy Hazlitt provides his audience with a substantial argument that money is needed to live happily. Within Hazlitt’s sharp excerpt, he uses several different rhetorical strategies to strengthen his argument and express his views on the importance of money. Money in fact, is very important to each person since in today’s world, money is used for everything. The problem is occurring is it is almost impossible to not desire or need money in our society.

Scott Fitzgerald shows this in his classic novel, The Great Gatsby, a sad love story about the rich title character, Jay Gatsby, and his obsession to win back the love of the now married Daisy Buchanan, his former girlfriend. The extravagant lifestyles of Gatsby and the wealthy socialites who attend his parties lead to lost dreams and wasted lives. These men and women are absorbed by material pursuits. In Jay Gatsby’s case, all the money in the world could not replace what he truly desires, Daisy.

It is apparent that she feels negatively toward her father; although, she loves him still after being a horrible father to her. When she calls him daddy she begins to hint at the love and endearment she still holds for him. The words payday and bill shape the poem to be about money; however, when reading more thoroughly it is actually about time. In the poem, money is a reference to time.
The common moral of many well known stories is that money doesn 't not equate to happiness. You can live life without money and yet maintain a blissful life. In "On the want of money" however, an essay written by William Hazlitt, the author outright denounces this cliche idea and points to money as a key ingredient to a prosperous life. He claims that money is one 's life line to success in this materialistic world as without it, you will be subjected to the constraints of poverty and it 's harsh effects. Hazlitt builds on his argument of the necessity of money through his use of powerful diction,clever syntax through long repetition,logos, and an assertive tone.
Nick says that “That was it. I’d never understood before. It was full of money -- that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals’ song of it . . . High in a white palace the king’s daughter, the golden girl. . .” (Fitzgerald, 127).
In Anglo-Saxon culture, gold was one of the most valuable possessions a person could own. Gold and treasure was a sign of wealth, honor, respect and power. To the Anglo-Saxons, people lived their lives to become more honorable in the eyes of their peers. People valued others who had more treasure as it was a sign of their accomplishments. The role of wealth, treasure and gold in this poem is important to the power and the honor of the individual.
Can money bring you happiness: many Americans believe that having lots of money can bring happiness? However one writer, Gregg Easterbrook, in his article, “The Real Truth about Money,” promotes that having a lot of money in your pocket doesn’t bring happiness in this world. He writes this article to persuade his audience that money doesn’t bring happiness. Easterbrook begins building his credibility with personal facts and reputable sources, citing convincing facts and statistics, and successfully employing Logical appeals; however, toward the end of the article, he attempts to appeal to readers’ emotions weaken his credibility and ultimately, his argument. In his article, Easterbrook starts his article by showing people how life has changed since the World War II and the Depression eras of life, and then he outlines that people that people spend lots of their time trying to keep up with the norms of life and draws the comparison that people who have higher income have depression or unhappy with themselves.
