The world operates on a global scale, as a matter of fact, students interact in an interdisciplinary fashion already in their lives.They actively organize complex social networks and they interact across cultures in the virtual world sharing publicly their opinions comfortably. Therefore, teaching methodologies have to adjust to students new modes of addressing the world. The U.S. educational system has an obligation to prepare students with new global competencies to efficiently respond to the world around them in order to carry out the task and responsibilities of their own generation. Simultaneously, employers require knowledge and in-depth skills in a specific field or major. On the other hand, students are demanding a different approach to education, they feel something is missing in their learning experience. Pew’s statistics state that students when asked to how do they prepare themselves for the labor force, half of all college graduates say gaining more work experience while they were undergraduates would have helped their chances to get the job they wanted. Men (55%) are more likely than women (45%) to say this. This current of thought is already being successfully implemented, for instance, the University of Iowa has a compelling new initiative, Iowa Grow, which “uses brief, structured conversations between student employees and their supervisors to help students connect the skills and knowledge they are gaining in the classroom with their student work, and vice versa” (Iowa Grow, n.d.). Another example is the Catholic University of Portland, the school offers an interdisciplinary core curriculum that is founded on the idea that a single discipline by itself is not enough to effectively respond to complex situations in the world today, therefore, the inquiry must intersect with the different disciplines. Furthermore, the school offers an Integrated Work Learning option, a supervised internship that connects classroom theories and knowledge, to practical, real-world professional settings. These are very diverse internships that “can be completed throughout the academic year, in the summer, and [the student] can receive credit and/or pay, and be completed locally, nationally and internationally” (University of Portland n.d). In today’s society, it has been found out that college graduates have a hard time seeking a job and end up with a sky-high student debt. This reality then poses a question, is going to college worth the time and money? An essay in the New York Times published in May 2014 entitled, “Is College Worth It? Clearly New Data Say,” by David Leonhardt states, “For all the struggles that many young college graduates face, a four-year degree has probably never been more valuable” (33). In his essay, Leonhardt sets the stage by describing the struggles a college graduate might have such as student debt, no work after graduating, and accepting jobs they feel overqualified.
There are 3,418,059,380 women in the world (Geohive.com, 2015) and yet, women, in 2010, got paid a staggering 19% difference in wage on a universal standpoint (Economist, 2011). Such contributing factors as this (wage), has created an overwhelming notion of gender inequality leading to such things as segregation in the workforce across the globe. Ethos is universally known as the ethical appeal, convincing one of a person’s character (Courses.durhamtech.edu, 2015). The staggering numbers of economic contributions of women compared to men has however, highlighted that there are fewer women to men ratios in the workforce due to the where we live, maternal implications (pregnancies), upbringing and education.
On the 2015 PISA, a test given around the world designed to assess education systems, the U.S. ranked 36 out of 65 countries on the math section. That is worse than half of the countries in the world. I am convinced this was not caused by dumb students, but by bad teaching. The teachers are not to blame. They were taught the same way, and they were trained to teach this way, so this is the only way of teaching they know.
They argue that while college is a valuable investment for many students, it is not the right choice for everyone. They point out that the cost of attending college has skyrocketed, and many students graduate with large amounts of debt, which may not be worth the investment for some students. “By 2015, approximately 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese” (Barbour 5). In today’s world, obesity is a problem and should be helped by influencing people to make healthier choices. According to the World Health Organization, obesity is defined as having a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or above. They also say that, “BMI is found by taking your weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters (kg/m2)” (Barbour 2).
a. After learning about nutrition and our health, the students will decide if it is true – we are what we eat. Each student will take a stand on whether or not we should be able to eat whatever we want whenever we want. After taking a stand, each student will create a website to inform and persuade others on how to eat by creating various blog posts. Each blog post will have a specific focus in regards to what we should or should not be eating. Besides persuading others to eat a certain way, the students will also include various recipes as well as pictures and graphics to support their stand and help others make the necessary changes possible.

The advent of the Internet has had an undeniable effect on the information seeking behavior of those operating in a higher education setting, with students and academics benefiting from unprecedented access to vast amounts of information on a day-to-day basis. Reading is an essential part of human life. We use writing as a way of communicating and without it, people would not be able to clearly comprehend what others are thinking and their ideas. As we move along throughout society things change and advance. There are so many more distractions now then there were just 30 years ago. All these distractions are causing kids and teens to focus less on reading and more on how many likes their post gets on Instagram.
ASTD, and the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for a Competitive Workforce suggest that a gap exists between the skills employees possess and the skills employers need (2012). In fact, “72% of educational institutions believe recent graduates are ready for work, only 42% of employers agree” (Yang, 2013). It seems that there are far too few high school graduates and adults who are prepared for the jobs of the 21st century. Increasingly, the jobs of today require some type of post-secondary training or certification.
What is the New Testament, and why should one study it? The article states that the text of the Bible is not scripture itself and it should be studied with the purpose of finding the meaning of the text in its ancient context. I believe that it is important to focus on the historical analysis of a text when studying. Focusing on the historical analysis gives insight to the text itself and more specifically, what the text meant at the time it was written. That is why we should exegete the text.
