Having a friend is important in life. They can help with almost anything. They can make you laugh, make you cry, and many other emotions. The book, “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck shows an amazing friendship between George and Lennie. Friendship has many characteristics which are shown through George and Lennie. Friendship is about sacrificing for each other. George and Lennie have a great bond. The theme of friendship is shown through standing up for each other, helping one another out, and accepting each other for who they are.

Friendship is about standing up for each other. “Course you did. Well, look. Lennie-if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush.” (Steinbeck. 15) This quote proves how George always stands up and looks after Lennie. Might jus’ as well spen’ all my time tellin’ you things and then you forget ‘em, and I tell you again.” (Steinbeck. 4) George is about to tell Lennie about their dream farm. George realizes that Lennie always forgets things. George shows acceptance of Lennie by willingly telling him the same thing repeatedly to try to get him not to forget. “I'll tell ya again.” This phrase directly supports acceptance of each other because George is accepting how Lennie forgets things and he is willing to tell him a million more times if necessary. What the author wants us to understand is that if someone is a loyal friend, they will accept you for who you are and not for who they wish you were. The importance of this is that George is a loyal friend to Lennie because he accepts Lennie for who he is and not for who George wishes we
