Osh, a character from Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk, would be the best partner on a deserted island because he is a strong caregiver, quick thinking, and resourceful. Osh has proved to be a strong caregiver, which makes him a worthy partner to be stranded on an island with. At this point in the story, Osh is talking to Crow about the challenges of raising her. He didn’t want Crow to be taken away from him so he would go above and beyond to keep her protected and content.
The poem, “Siren Song” by Margaret Atwood, embodies the alluring ideas of Daisy Buchanan. The speaker of the poem describes the song she sings that “forces men to leap overboard in squadrons even though they see the beached skulls.” We see Daisy doing the same in The Great Gatsby. She gives Gatsby false promises about how she never loved Tom and that she will divorce Tom in favor of Gatsby. We can almost imagine Gatsby reaching out on his dock towards the green light coming from Daisy’s dock.
Trespass by Julia Alvarez is a short story that depicts the life of a young immigrant girl whose family has relocated from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey and the many emotions, trials, and tribulations that come with such a massive change. The oldest of four girls, Carla, seems to have the hardest time adapting to this new environment and circumstance. When their mother makes a typical Spanish dessert and inserts a candle to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the move to the States, she says, "Let us please go back home, please, She half prayed and half wished" (Alvarez 99). Aside from the anguish of leaving her extended family and the challenges of adjusting to a new neighborhood, school, and country, she has the strongest ties to the Dominican Republic and the most difficulty assimilating to English and American culture.
“Trouble with Michael” “Shells” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic fiction short story about a 14-year-old boy named Michael who lives with his Aunt Esther after his parents’ deaths. In the beginning, aunt Esther has accused Michael of hating her. Soon, Aunt Esther is trying to get closer to Michael by not being on the phone when he had gotten home from school. In the end, aunt Esther had worked her way to get closer to Michael- the hermit crabs and Sluggo were a message to Michael that representd him while Sluggo came out of his shell.
A working woman’s social status was still lower than a man’s. As Mary Paul described in her letter, women were often paid less, despite performing the same amount of work. Men would even receive double a woman’s salary, just due to their gender. That is unfortunately an economic issue that permeates today’s market as well. The letters expose the cultural hardships working women had to live through because of their positions in society.

She wondered how this man could have betrayed her in stealing her youth in such a way that would drain her happiness. This life has brought enough misery to the point where the same dark question often rose into her mind. Was existence worth accepting?
Lost in the Sun is really breathtaking novel. It really combines the perfect amount of tragedy and everyday life. Then add a sprinkle of sarcasm and bam, you have Lost in the Sun. The question I chose was what evidence I would give the main character but before this I am going to summarize this book for you. In this masterpiece, Lisa Graff depicts the story of a traumatized middle-schooler named Trent.
Extended out to most children is the hand of a parent offering a warm hug along with warnings of danger to their children. This is what any fit parent would do. However this is not always the case with all parents. For example in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Rose Mary and Rex Walls are not fit to be parents because they don’t give their children what they need and have an unstable relationship. Jeannette and her siblings live off of what their parents can afford when they have sufficient money but they don’t use it to give them what they need.
In the John 8:7, when referring to the adulterous woman, Jesus said to the people, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” Inherently sinful, individuals cannot go a day without lying. However, lying cannot justify good intentions, various definitions or exaggerations because at the end of the day, a lie remains a lie. Author Stephanie Ericsson argues in “The Ways We Lie,” that various types of lies do exist and often times goes unnoticed by the public. She never outright states that lying is wrong; rather, by the use of definitions and personal experiences, she proves the point that all individuals do lie.
