How Does Simon Stand Out In Lord Of The Flies

In the book Lord of the Flies, Simon becomes noticeably different from the rest of the schoolboys on the island. Simon is a shy individual and doesn’t speak often. He, unlike the other boys, enjoys being alone and independent while on the island. Although he comes across as one of the younger boys, he is one of the more disciplined, caring and mature; he understands what has to be done in order for them to survive and to keep peace between them all. Simon is the only boy on the island who sticks up for Piggy in countless situations throughout the book making him stand out in a positive way. At one point in the book Simon brings up an interesting point regarding the beast. He begins to realize that there really isn’t a physical, “beast”. The thought comes to him, which leads him to believe that they are the beasts; the beast is inside of human beings.
