Born May 29, 1736 in Studley Hanover County Virginia to John and Sara Winston Henry, Patrick Henry was a happy child and worked very hard even though sometimes the crops grew very little. Patrick Henry married at age eighteen to Sara Shelton the year of 1754, who he later had six kids with. For a wedding gift, Sara’s father gave them six slaves and three hundred acres to start Red Hill plantation in Virginia. A little while later Patrick had to sell the land because the soil was not fertile because of a fire, which caused the crops not to grow. He tried to start a business several times but each time he tried he was unsuccessful, so he decided to start studying law.
I began to read about our first lady, George Washington’s wife. Washington’s wife was Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. George Washington was not her first marriage though, originally she was married to Daniel Custis. I found this piece of information interesting because I had no idea who she was married to before George. While married to Custis, Martha had four children and two died at very young age and suddenly at age twenty six her husband died.

Lay investiture is a practice that nobles or prestigious people, such as kings, did; giving bishops and abbots the power over church offices (Richard Abels).
Henry V grew up amidst tavern people before he became King, because of the way he was raised he was able to convey well with all of his men unconcerned of their rank or status. Henry was in a position where he had around 10,000 soldiers that were worn down and in a mindset of defeat already, compared to the 50,000 fresh French soldiers. His speech was the turning point in the war and this was before the battle started thanks to the way he was able to make all of his men feel equal and accounted for causing a victory in the battle. King Henry VIII sought to protect his dignity by sustaining the Tudor reign. He was both prideful and greedy in character; which is supported by his determination in producing a male heir. He was so determined, he was willing to do anything - including betraying, divorcing and beheading his wives. In addition, Henry VIII was a strong participant in the Feudal System. Life in the Medieval castle was directed by the pyramid-shaped Feudal System.

The scene in which King Henry IV confronts Prince Hal is a pivotal moment in their relationship’s development throughout the William Shakespeare’s account of the rebellions against the King’s rule in the play Henry IV Part I. Act 3 Scene 2 offers an insight into the ruling ideologies of Henry and his heir apparent Hal, as rulers, while each character considers the upcoming battle and attempt to determine what makes worthy ruler. Henry expresses unresolved anxiety about how he came into his throne, and his uncertainties about Hal, his successor, while Hal is desperate to recover his father’s trust in him. My group decided to include this scene in our performance because it embodied the evolution of the father-son relationships within the play. Tanya, Gillian and I focused our performance on the dynamics of Henry and Hal’s relationship, and how their relationship informed our understanding of their characters. Particularly, our group centered our performance on the value of the competing political ideologies between the father and son.
A Heroic Man With his last breath he died in the eyes of his soldiers a hero; however, heroism in Henry the IV Part 1 has many different interpretations. Shakespeare portrays heroism from multiple perspectives in order to demonstrate the different perceptions of heroism based on an individual’s morals and values. Shakespeare also explores the evolution of heroism, from that of a successful warrior, to an individual that is willing to put the needs of others before their own. Shakespeare intertwines honour and heroism into the theme of the play and we must consider both when determining the heroic value of each character.
