"Francois Rabelais. He was this poet. And his last words were 'I go to seek a Great Perhaps.' That's why I'm going. So I don't have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps." The idea of existence is divergent in nature , some deem existence as a labyrinth of no escape ; on the other hand some see it as an adventure where no stone is to be left unturned . The novel is set in a typical boarding school in rural Alabama where Green has showcases the supposed most glo- rious years of one’s life ; self-image, relationships, beliefs, fears, triumphs, vulnerability, insecu- rities , love in short, everything that is you is shaped ; high school years . In this novel , Miles and Alaska ( protagonist ) ponder upon stark realities of life like death and metaphysical elements such as how we live and existence of an individual as a soul after death . The characters of the novel are not popu- lar cliched high school students rather they are outsiders .Ideas of existence , life , death , suffer- ing is presented in John Green’s ‘Looking for Alaska ’. The group of people bound together by an incident went from brimming with teenage angst and rebellious ways spiralled deep into de- pression and became socially moribund.
When Alaska passes away, Miles questions the meaning of life more than before and tries to make sense of what Death is in every point of view possible. He tried for a very long time to fig- ure out what had happened to Alaska, and why she did what she did . The novel depicts how life is so twisted and unexpected in its own way that one cannot take any moment for granted and how people cope with diverse situations . In the short span of 221 pages John Green takes the au- dience through a divergent ray of emotions . Friendship , afterlife , existence , love and loss are a few of the major elements in this novel
