Architecture has the ability to remark and reflect any region, give a feeling and a sense of a place, and present thoughts and creativity. Across the world, especially in the United States, there are many cities that are distinguished by its architecture and unique styles: The skyline of New York City is defined by it’s skyscrapers; San Francisco’s mixture of Victorian and modern colored houses; New Orleans’ iconic Creole townhouses; and Miami’s modernist architecture. Los Angeles, San Diego and some of the cities in the same region are no different from the previous appreciable cities all around America. These cities are located in the state of California which is on the West Coast. They share some significant architectural characteristics
People love serenity (Basic). People love customisable items. People love gardens (Parallel). People around the world keep gardens. Whether their gardens provide them with food, beauty, or a place to hold parties, people keep gardens for many reasons. Japanese gardens are a large part of their culture and represent different aspects of the person who tends it. The beauty of a garden only reflects the diligence of its’ caretaker. In Gail Tsukiyama’s novel The Samurai’s Garden several of her characters tend their own Japanese-style gardens. Throughout her novel, she reveals the importance of the gardens present, and how they represent their caretakers inner selves.
On November 26, 2016, I attended the Emerald City Theatre Company production of Charles M. Schulz play Charlie Brown Christmas. The production of the play was great for the children who were in attends of the play. The production took away the 4th wall.Which help the children of the audiences be a part of the play a couple of times.Still, it 's a good and time-efficient choice for family members who are used to the animated Charlie Brown and wanting it to be the same as the TV special. The productions of this play were successful through stage design, lighting crewing, and acting. Those three aspects made the quality of the play stand out to me, as an audience member.

“Biophilic design is the deliberate attempt to translate an understanding of biophilia into the design of the built environment” (Kellert, 2008). It involves building and landscape design that enhance human well-being by fostering positive connections between people and natural environment. It is an innovative design approach that aims to maintain, enhance and restore the benefits of experiencing nature in the built environment. It starts by observing the effect of the mutual interaction between the natural and the built environment. The learned knowledge is then reflected onto the design and construction of the built environment. Utilizing that knowledge in architectural and urban design can guide architecture towards a more humane experience.
If you are passionate about something you should believe in it, and also take the risk and aim for it. In “Field of Dreams” Ray Kinsella takes an enormous risk by building a baseball field when he hears a voice. In “The Thrill of the Grass” the narrator strongly dislikes the use of artificial turf so he sneaks into a stadium changing the field one square piece at a time. Both characters face tremendous chances, but with the people they love they follow their hearts and take these great risks.
Something I learned about in Herbology 301 is healing. Healing is an important part of our life, which is why i wanted to write about it. Healing spells are needed in everyday life, and if we were to ask someone how many healing spells they 've used in their lifetime, the number would probably be too high to remember. I also learned that mental illnesses are not one-spell-cure-all diseases, which is very helpful to know.
One main idea of landscape architecture is to persuade people to interact with nature and to enjoy and help it, not to destroy or harm it. Nature is as much as part of this world as humans are; without nature or the wilderness there would be no society. Leopold states, “Wilderness is the raw material out of which man has hammered the artifact called civilization” (264). Human grew out of nature. In the essay “Wilderness” Aldo Leopold talks about nature as if it is a masterpiece painted by the earth or as if it is an ancient artifact in a famous museum. In the essay Leopold talks about preserving and loving nature (265). I also feel it is necessary to preserve and enjoy the wild. People go to museums to enjoy the past. It would be unacceptable to destroy a sculpture in the Louvre or to ruin a priceless relic in the Smithsonian, so humans should not destroy our greatest piece of history earth has to offer, nature. Aldo Leopold states, “This is a plea for the preservation of some tag-ends of wilderness, as museum pieces, for the edification of those who may one day wish to see, feel, or study the origins of their cultural inheritance” (265). It has been a dream of mine to travel the world and see it the way Aldo Leopold
A foreign visitor to the United States might be intrigued by the different look of the American landscape as compared to those of Europe, Asia, or South America. With their works, Kenneth T. Jackson and Dolores Hayden both shed clarity on the look of American tracts, malls, and highways with Crabgrass Frontier and Building Suburbia, respectively.
Lighting is a vital part of a theatrical performance. The lighting design not only allows the audience to see what is occurring on stage, but also indicates the mood of a scene and affects the emotions of the audience. The lighting design of Bulrusher is an integral part in this production. I found three components of the lighting design particularly significant: the lighting of the river, the selection of down light colors, and the changes in lighting during key moments.
The purpose of this laboratory experiment was to identify the molarities of dye present in green Powerade and then create a solution that possessed the same concentrations. This experiment consisted of two parts of experimentation, the first part focused on identifying the dyes present and at what concentration, and the second part focused on the recreation of the stock solution. To successfully complete this experiment, a small cuvette, full of 2 mL of green Powerade, was placed into a UV spectrometer in order to identify which wavelengths were being absorbed and reflected. With this information a complete series of dilutions using yellow #5 and blue #1 dye in ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5 were conducted to find the max peak absorbancy
Formed over millions of years, the Sonoran Desert is North America's most fascinating and ecologically significant desert that is home to a diverse mix of both plants and animals. Deserts are commonly thought of as harsh, hot, barren wastelands that are barely capable of supporting life forms. The truth is quite the contrary. Though deserts are Earths most hottest and driest climates, they are not all the same and each desert sustains different life forms in their own ways. It can be debated as to what qualifies a desert as a desert, but scientists have agreed that a desert is defined by the amount rainfall they receive, or its aridity. Aridity can be divided into three categories: arid being a total annual rainfall of less
Fly-fishing. To me, it sounds like one of the most boring sports in the world, rivaled only by golf and chess. Reading a book about fly-fishing sounds even worse. Tying to imagine a movie based on the book about fly-fishing...let me just say I had my doubts. I began by reading the book, A River Runs Through It. The plot line is weak, and the descriptions of nature last for pages. Needless to say, I was still unconvinced that the novella could be adapted into a film. Using fly-fishing as the backdrop for a major motion picture seems to be a huge gamble. However, director Robert Redford holds the winning hand. To my surprise, A River Runs Through It not only captured my attention, but kept it for the entirety of the film. A heart-warming American Western, the film transports the audience back in time to the ‘good ole’ days of untouched nature and traditional family values. The novella the film is based on is a true story. Centered on the life and greatest tragedy of the Maclean Family, the novella and the film share the joys and sorrows of life. Audiences will find the film easy to relate to and easy to love. So allow yourself to be swept away by the river, even if it is only for a couple of hours.
As the gardening year comes to an end, it is with sincere gratitude that I extend thanks to the parents and community members who helped to make the Holbrook Community Garden a success this past school year and summer months. With your support and hard work, vegetables were provided to CHEFS and the school cafeteria!
