Significance of Constitution Act of 1982 Canada has earned the title of being a peacemaking nation which is well deserved and known in the international community. It supports equality among everyone, protects and guarantees the rights of its citizens, and is considered a role model for protection of human rights around the world. However in Canada’s history, it’s society was once filled with prejudice and there were many discriminatory laws. This was evident in many historical events such as the mistreatment of the First Nations people, and the unfair Chinese Immigration Acts. Those laws had a very negative significant impact on the people.

They are successful in convincing the British government to divide Quebec into Upper and Lower Canada and to Upper Canada they bring their ideas about freehold land ownership, systematic planning of townships and representative government. United in their distrust of the Americans, they adopt the term ‘Canadian,’ a term once reserved for the francophone population but now one that marks the conversion of ‘British’ immigrants to ‘Canadians’, a term that is still used today. Their varied nationalities are also instrumental in creating the foundation for the pluralistic and multi-ethnic Canada that is foundational to its identity.
Introduction Diversity is a characteristic that is characterized by the recognition and shared regard of the similarities and differences in culture, age, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and experiences that make people unique. Many people suppose that the Canadian society is diverse and problems such as discrimination and racism are not difficulties affecting this community. Canadians understand that they are characterized by diversity, tolerance, and acceptance and that these are the traits that virtually define the values of this nation. Although many people assert that the country is diverse, previous cases and literature have portrayed how the Canadian society is segregated and intolerant. The most disturbing elaboration of intolerance in the Canadian society was the Saskatoon starlight tours where law enforcement officers would pick aboriginals from their communities, and they were taken to the outskirts of the city in the dead of winter where they were left for dead.

Growing up in a multicultural mecca like Canada, you learn a lot about other cultures and races, but you also learn about what others think of your culture, race, personality and religion. Everyone at one point or another has been shocked by someone acting differently to the stereotype perpetuated by others about their culture, race, ethnicity, or religion. Part of growing up in Canada is learning that your perception of someone was wrong. Time and time again, people stood up and proven that stereotypes are not only wrong but a crude and unfair generalization.
Every person has a story. A story that is more complex than what we believe to be. A story that does not only have a beginning, middle, and end but as well has obstacles, achievements, and characters that have to face everything that life throws at them. However, some people are quick to judge and stereotype people based on their appearance and their diminutive amount of knowledge rather than listening. If people listened, they would understand the history and lives of the immigrants that call the United States their home.

Toope argues that Canada deserves to be celebrated for more than just hockey and Medicare, the most commonly associate emblems of the country, and instead to be directed by visionaries, and their decreased sense of humility. The Canadian Multiculturalism Policy of 1971 was introduced to maintain the cultural freedom of all individuals and to recognize the cultural, diverse, and ethnic groups living in the Canadian society. Gran Torino is a captivating film which shows a great deal racial prejudice and how one can overcome racism through communication. This film strings together racial and ethnic portraits in many scenes which highlight many important issues in today’s society. There are some movies today that use these racial stereotypes but they do them without reason. This film uses it to bring light to a minority of people living in the U.S. that do not get much attention. The movie is largely about Walt’s relationship with his Hmong neighbors in which he goes from being openly hostile to a more understanding position in the end.
