Them nights we had together?” (133) -Stanley Stanley believes and tries to convince Stella that the tensions between them and all the problems that it caused will die down as soon as Blanche leaves them. He tries to remind her of all the good times that they had together, as to provide an example of what will happen when Blanche leaves. This quotation shows Stanley’s distain towards Blanche and how he regrets bringing her into his home. And if that is sinful, then let them be damned for it!—Don’t turn the light on!”(145) -Blanche Blanch is speaking to Mitch, and is trying to convince him not to turn on the light, even though he desires to see her in full view. This shows how Blanche is self conscious of her looks and age, and how she likes to distort reality to portray falsities. This shows how Blanche likes to distort her true image, and this ultimately gets Mitch suspicious of her and who she really is. This quote teaches me to always look for the truth, because if you don’t look hard enough, you may only get the misrepresentation, and that is usually false information. “A cultivated woman, a woman of intelligence and breeding can enrich a man’s life – immeasurably! I have those things to offer, and this doesn’t take them away. Physical beauty is passing. A transitory possession. We see him as a compassionate soul, who is willing to read to a person that has just been kicked out of the school. Because Holden says that he reads a lot, we can infer that he may be an introvert and may love to spend time with himself. This quote can be related to my life because when I was younger, I used to spend my weekends reading and book that I could get my hands on. “I mean he was mostly a Year Book kind of handsome guy. I knew a lot of guys at Pencey I thought were a lot handsomer than Stradlater, but they wouldn’t look handsome if you saw their pictures in the Year Book” -Holden This quote shows that Holden is jealous about Stradlater’s looks and is insecure about himself. Whereas Stradlater seems to have everything figured out, Holden is still struggling to find himself. He relates his insecurities by bashing on Stradlater, calling him a Year Book kind of handsome guy, or a person who only looks good in the yearbook, but not in real life.
