Tim Burton directed Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, a 2007 film based on the 1979 musical by Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd, which in turn was based off of the nineteenth century melodrama about a homicidal barber. Overall, the film is about Sweeney Todd–-an English barber who escapes prison to find out that his wife is dead and that his rival, Judge Turpin, holds his daughter in captivity. Sweeney Todd becomes a serial killer during his quest of revenge, murdering his customers with a straight razor and, with the help of his accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, processes their corpses into meat pies.
