THE ALTERNATIVE GIFT GUIDE
Christmas can be a very stressful time of the year and the pressure to buy the most gorgeous or appropriate gift is only one of many tasks which results in most of us reeling under the fear that we have no idea what our loved ones need, want or even like!
Fortunately, there are alternatives to joining in with the most recent and ridiculous fads if you have the time to do a little research and forward planning. Here are a few ideas that have piqued my interest recently:
For the children
• Build a personalised book, complete with a story incorporating your child’s name and other family members. There are lots available online for a variety of age groups and story styles or you could opt to make your own if you have the skills and time.
• Animal Experiences

who live further afield
• A commitment to a regular day out together whether that be weekly or monthly.
• A digital photo frame full of all the best pics of the entire family.
• An apron or t-shirt printed with a picture of your child/children so they have that constant reminder that they are loved.
• A pillowcase printed with a collage of family pictures so that they can lie and relax with you all when you are not around.
For the recently bereaved
Christmas can be such a huge challenge when there is a big gaping hole in your life, particularly the first year.
• A beautiful etched photo frame to hold a beloved photograph with be a visual reminder that they are still watching over you all.
• A cushion cover or soft toy made from a loved one’s shirt or sweater – something to hold close when your loved one feels lonely.
None of these gift ideas is particularly complex or expensive but they all incorporate the idea that gifts should be about new experiences, reaching for goals and then having the memories of those things in the future. Most of us would much rather have fun experiences rather than material items which fade from favour in the blink of an
Experiencing a transition can have the power to transform an individual’s attitudes and beliefs whilst continuing to challenge the world around them, this can been seen in the personas of Old Bill and Caitlin who both experience significant transitions when they meet Billy. Old Bill engages in a transition of self-pity emerging from the death of both his daughter and wife, which left him in a saddened state from which he was afraid to move on from. Caitlin on the other hand undergoes a transition of responsibility and self-growth, from being a young school girl with everything she could need ever need which leads her to be quite materialistic and judgmental to a respectable young lady who by the end of the novel, The Simple Gift written by
This summer I was assigned Final Gifts by Maggie Callahan and Patricia Kelley. Both authors worked as hospice nurses and were able to share their thirty-three years of first- hand experiences and knowledge with us to help better our understanding of the special awareness’s, needs, and communications of the dying. The book focuses profoundly on the physical, metaphysical, and psychological traits the dying encounter weeks or days before death. Both Kelley and Callahan are experts at observing every little behavior of the sick and being able to pinpoint specific signs that mean death is approaching. Not only does this book concentrate on the sick and their needs, but it also fits in the families and their duties in such hard times.
Feministic Critique: How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, is a poem written by Dr. Seuss. The superiority of males, is a hidden message shown in this poem. The story is about a man who wants to stop Christmas. He does this by stealing all the presents form the Who family.
Our goal this year is to be able to adopt two families to grant them the wish of “the perfect Christmas.” Our projects will be funded by sponsors or donations from the Winter Haven community. The two families who will be granted with this gift are located in Winter Haven, Florida and they must be in need.

The Christmas Carol “Decrease the surplus population” are harsh words. Watch Scrooge become a nice man. The Christmas Carol is about a man named Scrooge who needs to find room in his heart for Christmas. In the book and the movie Scrooge comes home after a money saving work day.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year. It is when we all show appreciation for each other by giving gifts. I myself would like some gifts from you. After all, there are things I do not have that I want. So, I present to you the present I want for Christmas.
There are many themes explored in the novel, The Simple Gift. Such as homelessness, Random acts of kindness and the importance of positive relationships. Discuss two of these themes and how they are presented through the characters of Billy, Old Bill, and Caitlin. The Simple Gift by Steven Herrick is a unique book in which stories are told in very short sentences like how short poems are written, the Simple Gift is a book about Billy Luckett and how he fled his alcoholic father who would continually disrespect him and to Billy he felt that this wasn’t his home, he wasn’t safe and he didn’t have any free-will to do whatever he wanted to do without being torn by his father for anything right or wrong he did, to him he felt that it was just a
“Look, you, sir, a school ahead. The schoolroom is not quite deserted. A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still.” (Horovitz p. 760). This is one of the many important parts of the drama, The Christmas Carol.
In A Defense of Abortion Thompson presents an argument against the morality of abortion by showing the superiority of women’s rights through several different analogous cases. The case of focus will be case eight, “ A Selfless Brother’s Box of Chocolates.” In scenario one, Thompson argues that an older brother has a box of chocolates while his younger brother has nothing; the question of appeal is does the younger brother automatically have a right to these chocolates? The box of chocolates represents a woman’s body while the younger brother represents the fetus. Although it would be nice for the older brother (mother) to share his box of chocolates (mothers body) he is not obligated to share them with anyone even if he is perceived as a selfish, greedy, or a stingy person.
Why was Scrooge such a grumpy old man? The Christmas Carol Story is a play I’m writing an essay on that is going to explain how Scrooge changed to be a good man. Three ghosts visited him the night before Christmas day. The first ghost showed him Christmas past, the second showed the present, and the third one showed the future. Scrooge was a greedy man because of his past so he was visited by the first, second, and third ghost.
“Perfection is shallow, unreal, and fatally uninteresting” (Anne Lamott). Can you picture our world as a perfect society? For perfection to be achieved everything would have to change. Through the book, The Giver, Lois Lowry shows how a perfect society is not always ideal for everyone. The rules of the society portrayed include a discipline wand, chosen spouse, and release.
The gifts from America to my generation are amazing. The fact that so many people fought and even died for our freedom is incredible. I 'm going to list some of the gifts America has given my generation and how thankful I am for them. The first gift America has given to my generation is freedom of speech. I 'm so glad that we are allowed to say and think what we want.
One story that I remember fondly, is "Charlotte's Web", by E.B. White. It's not a fairy tale in the sense that "Little Red Riding Hood" is perhaps, but it is fantastical fiction nonetheless. The story is set on a farm owned by the Arable family. One of the resident pigs has a litter, including one poor little runt. Mr. Arable wants to kill the runt for food, since he won't thrive anyway, but his young daughter Fern won't allow it.
