Finally, Danforth allowed people, he knew were innocent, to be hanged. As the story went on, Danforth was starting to believe less and less what the girls were saying about the witches. But Danforth was too worried about his reputation to say that the accused were not guilty. In Act IV, Danforth said, “Twelve already executed: the names of these seven are give out, and the village expects to see them die this morning. Postponement now speaks a floundering on my part..”
Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953 during Senator Joseph McCarthy 's congressional investigations to root out suspected Communists in the State Department, the entertainment industry, and the US Army. Miller himself had been blacklisted after being accused of supporting communism. The Crucible mirrored by Miller of how McCarthy accused people for communism, just like the people in Salem, both McCarthy and The Crucible accused for revenge towards their enemy 's. One theme of The Crucible is that fear motivates people to do unspeakable actions. In the second act of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth address the issues between them for the first time. This friction between them was the result of John’s affair with Abigail Williams. Even from the beginning of Act 1 we could see that there was a serious resentment between Abigail and Elizabeth Proctor which caused Elizabeth Proctor to kick Abigail out off her services. When Elizabeth sees that John is still trying to protect Abigail from harm, the suspicions she kept inside becomes apparent to the audience and the confrontation that follows becomes the foundation of their argument. Miller utilizes both literary and structural elements to put emphasis on the conflict between these two important characters.
The Crucible was based in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The book starts off with Reverend Parris finding the girls in the woods dancing. Upon finding them Betty Reverend Parris’s daughter and some of the girls become ill. Abigail Reverend Parris’s niece tells him that when he found them in the wood Betty was so frightened when Parris found her she fainted and won’t wake. With Betty and the other girls unable to wake rumors of witchcraft start around the community.

For, if one only used that one moment to judge the characteristics of another, then he or she would most likely misjudge how that person truly is. Instead, it is crucial to use a multitude of instances with another to piece together their true intentions and moral values. “Character Analysis over The Crucible” Arthur Miller is a commonly-known playwright, most famous for his 1953 play, The Crucible. The basis for The Crucible came from the witch trials which occurred in Salem, Massachusetts during the puritan era. Miller even uses some of the same characters in his dramatized play that were a part of the original witch trials in Salem. However, Miller made a few alterations to the historical members of the Salem society in order to suit his dramatic purpose in The Crucible, particularly Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Reverend Samuel Parris.
As time has passed, throughout history, during different periods of time there are parallels. There are three eras that we are focussed on, where there are three types of people during each era. The three different eras that we’re focusing on, are The Salem Witch Trials (1600s), The McCarthy Era (1950s), and Today (2000s); the three types of people are the people who are the reasons why there’s accusations towards the accused, the accused, and finally the accusers. In The Crucible, or during the Salem Witch Trials, the person that’s the reason why characters were accused is John Proctor. The accuser in the play, who decides to point fingers at everyone, is Abigail Williams.
