Myrtle is saying that she had an affair with Tom Buchanan. Tom is mischievous and has a kind heart. “All I kept thinking about, over and over, was ‘You can’t live forever; you can’t live forever.” (Fitzgerald 39). This quote from here is from Myrtle. She had made a mistake marrying George Wilson. She can’t handle being with him because he would lock her up in the house and she wouldn’t go outside or anything else. It was their first time meeting each other. Jay Gatsby shows her around the house.“You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock (Fitzgerald 94) .” This quote is the first time Gatsby says that the green light belongs to Daisy’s house. Gatsby had fell in love with Daisy at first, he watches her from the dock all night long. It feels like he had won her over and it shows by showing his own house.
Nick Carraway describes the Valley of Ashes when the eyes are an advertisement.“The eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg are blue and gigantic - their irises are one yard high (Fitzgerald 26).” The eyes don’t blink they are just there seeing you. The billboard represents the emptiness of The American Dream.

He has an extravagant neighbor named Gasby who hosts large parties in hopes of attracting a girl Daisy who happens to be Nick's cousin.
n our lifetime as humans, we spend much time thinking about the dreams we wish to accomplish. This dream can differ for everybody—some may aspire for fame, money, and others love. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, the characters of Jay Gatsby, Myrtle Wilson, and George Wilson represent the idea and the pursuit of a better, more idealistic life. Unfortunately, these aspirations that each character sought would ultimately lead to their demise. The symbol of a green light represents the idea of people being able to chase after their dreams even if they are unsuccessful in the process.

Out of the many symbols, the green light is a prominent symbol that symbolizes a variety of things, including new beginnings, longing, and wealth. The green light, which is at the end of Daisy's dock, symbolizes Gatsby's yearning for wealth and position associated with his former love, as well as his desire for a fresh start with her.
Fitzgerald used Daisy, Gatsby’s name change, and money as symbols to signify the theme. Gatsby idea of the American dream was with Daisy. She’s the golden girl, she’s the ideal housewife. Gatsby and Nick we are talking waiting for Daisy and Tom to go into the city.
Eckleberg's eyes witness some of the novels largest ethical collapses. The first of these is evidenced in Fitzgerald's quote “But above the gray land and the spasms of bleak dust which drift endlessy over it, you percieve, after a moment, the eyes of T.J. Eckleberg”(23). Nick refers to this area as “the valley of ashes”(Fitzgerald 23). The site of the billboard doubles as a representation for the poverty and class system that persisted in the time period, accompanied by the hypocrisy of the country's wealth boasting attitude. In the most literal sense, Eckleberg's eyes are an advertisement, which eludes to the harsh effects of capitalisim on the people who were unable to make it big.
Fitzgerald in the novel, uses careless individuals who would destroy everything and everyone and yet still manage to retreat back to their money. Daisy Buchanan, the ‘golden girl’ is rather dishonest and deceitful throughout the novel. As she starts having her affair with Gatsby, she creates unrealistic expectations in Gatsby head about their future together. As Gatsby is having drinks at the Buchanan’s, Tom leaves the room and Daisy kisses Gatsby and declares, ‘I don’t care!’ At this point, the audience realizes that Daisy is and always was in love with Gatsby and that she was prepared to leave Tom.
Tom was not happy about the affair, and decided to get revenge. This was the true unraveling point of Gatsby’s idealistic world. George Wilson, the husband of Myrtle, goes looking to avenge her. Tom too wants revenge: sending Wilson to Gatsby’s doorstep, leading him to believe Gatsby is the one Myrtle was cheating with. The consequences of his ideals finally catch up to Gatsby while he’s swimming in his pool, waiting for Daisy to call.
In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, symbolism is very important all throughout it. Not only does he use objects to show symbolism, but he also uses color symbolism to prove the importance of the theme and development of the characteristics in the Great Gatsby. Color symbolism brings out the visual of the story, so readers can picture it in their mind as they are reading. Fitzgerald took the colors to an advanced level by using key colors to help further deepen the meaning of the book and its characters. Although there are many colors in the novel, Fitzgerald uses the colors green, white, and yellow to symbolize Gatsby’s emotions and riches.

One of the most significant and well known symbols throughout this novel is the green light. This green light is an allusion to Gatsby’s “American Dream” or Daisy. “I decided to call to him. Miss Baker had mentioned him at dinner, and that would do for an introduction. But I didn 't call to him, for he gave a sudden intimation that he was content to be alone—he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling.
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby depicts a tragic love story, where one man 's lifelong aspirations are diminished by a cruel and reckless society.
