Genetically Modified Organisms, also known as GMOs, have been under intense scrutiny in the last few years. They have raised major concern in the public because in fact, most of the food that Americans have been consuming consists of GMOs. For example, the Grocery Manufacturers Association claims that nearly 75% of all conventional processed foods include GMOs (Scipioni, 2015). However, despite critic resentment, GMOs can indeed be beneficial for our society. Initially, before introduction into the market, GMOs are thoroughly tested for, on average, 8.5 years. Manufactures of GMOs take into consideration the risks to humans, livestock, the environment, and other wildlife as well (Staff, 2015). Researchers across the world look into the specific proteins and peptides that are genetically engineered inside GMOs to determine if they will create any potential allergic reaction or side effect. So far, they have concluded that GM food crops do not possess a greater risk to humans, animals, or the environment than do regular foods (Scipioni, 2015). …show more content…

Farmers will eventually start using less toxic substances in their fields. GMOs could provide more focused and precise pest resistance. One comprehensive study claimed that GMOs reduced chemical pesticide use by 37%, increased farmer profits 68%, and subsequently also increased crop yields by 22%.
