Intro:
Hello, today I will talk about three main events that led up to the American Revolution.
(Goes to slide number 1)
Explanation for Google Earth: The first important event that led up to the American Revolution was the French and Indian War .In the beginning of the war, the people went to Albany to listen to Benjamin Franklin speak. In 1759, the British captured Canada. Four years later Great Britain and France signed a peace treaty. (Google Earth explanation ends here)
Winning the seven year long French and Indian War caused Britain to lose a lot of money. The British needed to get the money back, so they started taxing the people. They felt that they

After the Boston Tea Party, King George and Lord North were shocked that the people threw the tea away. To control the people, they made a new set of laws .The Intolerable Acts, was what the colonists called the new series of laws that was passed by the Parliament in 1774 . The act contained four more acts that were suppose to keep the colonists under control. The Boston Port Act was the first act the Parliament passed, this act closed down the Boston Harbor until all of the lost tea was paid for. By sealing the harbor, the merchants lost their jobs, and the people lost their food supply. The king was basically trying to make the people pay by starving them, but this was not effective because the colonies started to donate food to Boston. The Massachusetts Government act was the second act. This made the people in Massachusetts firmly under British control. The First Continental Congress was formed because of these acts. Administration of Justice Act was the third law that was passed by the Parliament, allowing the British soldiers who were accused of murder to be tried in England. The new Quartering Act was the final act the Parliament passed. This sent more British soldiers to keep the people under
They dumped about 324 chests of tea into the boston harbor, destroying all of the tea. The British government responded brutally and it later escalated to the American Revolution. Intolerable Acts: A series of laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. They were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for throwing a large amount of tea into Boston harbor.
The colonists abruptly became enraged by these acts passed by Parliament. This was exhibited through how they referred to the acts. While Britain regarded these as the “Coercive Acts”, meaning they enforced stricter laws on the colonists so they obeyed the rules, the colonists referred to them as the “Intolerable Acts”, meaning these acts should not be enforced or allowed. These acts provided consequences for the Boston Tea Party, allowed for convicted British soldiers to be tried in biased ways, excluded numerous colonies from their own claimed territory, alarmed Protestants, and threatened the prospect of “self-government.” Specifically the Massachusetts Government Act and the Quebec Act prompted them to propose they did not hold as much
This law was called the Coercive Acts. The British closed down the Boston Harbor, and banned all ships from entering or leaving the port. They also forbade town or government meetings, and the British gave more protection for British tax collectors and guards. Additionally, they passed the Quartering act for the second time, which forced American Colonists to host, feed, and clothe British Redcoats. This made the colonists even angrier and it drove them to call the First Continental Congress in 1774.
Also, they did this for power. They wanted to show the colonists who was in charge, so by doing so they showed they have power. King George III, signed these acts, and made the acts towards the British colonies. These acts made the British colonies feel as if they were prisoners, not people of Britain. For this reason, I think this brought the American Revolution
Britain tried to control the colonies' trade through the Navigation Acts and that caused resentment and rebellion. Later the Townshend Acts would cause suspicion and struggle when England tried to tax colonists to pay colonial judges and governors to work with Britain. The Tea Act was imposed to help out the East India Company and had nothing to do with taxes, but with smothering the smuggling of Dutch tea. The colonists were radically angry about supposedly being taxed without consent, and the Boston Tea Party happened because of it. The Intolerable Acts, or the Coercive Acts, which gave Britain the right to try criminals in England as well as close the Boston Harbor until reparations were paid.
King George III and the british parliament were responsible for most of the development of the American Revolution because they passed many harsh and unfair acts. When the British won the French and Indian war, they took over many aspects of the colonist lives. Many acts were passed including the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act, the Declaratory Act, the Townshend Act, the Intolerable Act, and the Quartering Act. All of these acts were put in place by the government to benefit the government. When King George III passed the stamp act, a stamp was put on newspapers and legal and commercial documents, taxing them to raise revenue for the government.
Britain also had to pay for more armies in order to protect the colonies against French and Native American attacks. Since Britain was constantly losing money, they began taxing the colonies. “British leaders believed the colonists should pay part of the debt” (page 146). In order to do this, Parliament passed many acts. The Sugar Act, the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, and the Declaratory Act upset the colonists, so they protested.
King George III realized that they were losing control of the colonies, so he and parliament vowed to punish boston. In the spring of 1774, parliament passed the Coercive Acts, which were very harsh laws intended to punish the people of massachusetts. Then the Quebec act was passed later on, which angered the colonists furthermore. Colonists called the new laws, the Intolerable Acts. They were going to fight for the control of America, so the British soldiers were trying to destroy the artillery and ammunition of the colonists.
Lastly, in 1774 the government passed the Coercive Acts, or the Intolerable Acts, which closed the Boston port as a punishment for the Boston Tea Party. Parliament hoped it would stop colonial resistance, but the colonists saw it as a violation to their rights, and as a result created the First Continental Congress to protest. Simultaneously, the Quebec Act of 1774 granted the Ohio Valley to Quebec, but established Catholicism as the state religion. This enraged american colonists, because of the fear of Catholicism spreading. Overall the restrictions made on the colonials were resented by
Soldiers were allowed to live in colonist’s homes and needed to be fed. If the soldier’s needs weren’t met then there would be consequences for colonists that didn’t meet them. The Intolerable Acts also had taxes on numerous items and closed Boston Harbor. The effect of Boston Harbor being closed meant that the colonists could not get goods from over seas and this would impact their quality of life. There was also the Proclamation of 1763 which prohibited colonists from settling west of the Appalachian mountains.
Parlianment have to repealled this act in early 1770 except for the tax on tea. On March 6th, 1770, A fight between British soldiers and American colonists in Boston where 5 Bostonians were killed it called Boston Massacre. This is the first big conflicts between them and Boston people are angrier than ever before they. They starts talk about how to be free from the british rule and startes their own country.
The American Revolution was an uprising that arose from the rejection of British colonial rule and an ardent desire for independence. Although this event did not begin until 1765, there we many political, economic, and ideological disagreements that set the stage for the commencement of the American Revolution. Significantly, the Seven Years' War fought between the British and the French with the aid of Native American allies was an event that ended in the British imposing higher taxes on the colonies in order to eliminate their national debt. Subsequently, reforms such as the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, and the Tea Act which the British Parliament passed allowed them to collect taxes from the colonies to raise money for the Crown.
First, after the Seven Year War, Britain had many debts to pay because the war was costly. British people thought that the only beneficiaries after the war were Americans, so they must pay all the expenses. The Englishmen imposed taxes trough
The British parliament had placed taxation on the tea and the colonists were not happy with this. This caused the whole taxation without representation. The British began to levy taxes upon the colonist even though they were not represented in the government in any way. It was a series of events that took place that caused the colonist to become upset with the British government and the ones listed above are only a few. Once the colonist got upset they began to start drafting up their own set of rules one being the Bill of Rights.
The colonists tried to tell the British that they did not like the law and they didn’t listen so the colonists tipped lots of the British tea into the harbor to show they really don’t like the law. The Intolerable Acts began when the British hoped to force the colonists for the tea lost in the harbor and to obey British rule. The Coercive Acts closed the port of Boston and imposed military rule on all of Massachusetts. The colonists could not tolerate the acts. On the day the acts went into effect, flags throughout the colonies were flown
