Walter ignored the teachings of the Nazi party because he knew that Max was a human being just like he was; no more and no less. 1. “Don’t go, Papa. Please...first we lost Max. I can’t lose you now, too.”
No final goodbye.” (Zusak 193) The fact that Max left his family to save himself tortures him. What made Max feel even more guilty was when he was brought the terrible news of his family’s disappearance “Walter checked on them occasionally, as inconspicuously as he could. One afternoon, when he visited, someone else opened the
Max became a close and understanding friend to Liesel. He struggles through many things, due to him being a Jew. He is a very bright young man and makes good works of art in books. Rudy: Rudy is Liesel's best friend. He sees through racial discrimination and is opposed
He didn't know that he was just gonna try to help him. He also wanted to just get some friends. Max didn’t do anything to Freak and they became friends. Max is always helping Freak now and having fun.
Gene considers Finny to be his best friend. In this type of friendship there is an implied vow of trust, loyalty and sense of forever friendship "Finny could shine with everyone, he attracted everyone he met. I was glad of that too. Naturally. He was my roommate and my best friend" (Knowles 40).
Jeremy Fink has a big fear of change. This shows that he doesn’t really like to try new things and he is not really a risk taker. Jeremy, a 12 year old, has been living without his father for five years now and that has been tough on him. That is one of the reasons he doesn’t like change, because the biggest change he can remember is living without his father. Another example is Jeremy’s food choice.
Despite his small size, Freak demonstrates this by helping Max, who had the splitting image of the murderer, Killer Kane. Many people feared Max, including his grandparents, and they tended to distance themselves from him. Kids at school called Max names like Mad Max or Maxi Pad, continuously making fun of his “no brain” head. As a result, Max never had a friend, at least until Freak came along and reached out to him in his lonely world to bring a light of possibilities to his life. Starting from the escape of Tony D., Freak saved Max, as he says, “..because they never knew it was Freak who rescued me”(Freak the Mighty, pg.41).
Max has his meeting with the principle, then soon after Freak chokes on food. Also, the novel and the movie both have or show Max living with Gram and Grim. There is also Freak naming the elements of the fireworks show while sitting on Max’s shoulders. They find Loretta’s purse in the drain.
Imagine that you were considered freaks like Kevin and Max because of your freakish attributes. One super tall, strong and dull and the other short, frail, and intelligent, as one they are Freak the Mighty. Throughout the story Max and Kevin show their individuality, but they are also similar in the fact that they are both considered freaks. Even though Max and Kevin have somethings that are similar they are different in strength, and personality. These differences help complete Freak the Mighty because they have things that the other one does not.
Courageously, Liesel went ahead and befriended Max. Liesel made Max feel wanted and his whole attitude changed. Instead of feeling like an unwanted Jew that represented everything wrong with Germany, Liesel made Max feel like a human. In other words, Liesel took Max how he already was and left him better than he was previous to their relationship. Liesel courageously developed loyalty toward Max in a time when she could have seen him as an enemy.
In life, Family can overcome everything as long as you believe and trust each other. In the story A Pox Upon Us All by Ralph Fletcher, a whole family struggles with 7 kids all sick. This story tells me that this family trust and loved each other through no matter what challenges they kept on pushing. A Pox Upon Us All teaches you that family can overcome anything. The story shows this when they are first sick, then recovers, then gets sick again One reason that I know this is in the story of A Pox Upon Us All ,the author states‘’We kids did everything together we sat at the same table, same food, breath the same air.
Fang doesn’t talk that much, but when he does it almost always has a meaning. Max doesn’t like how Fang is usually right, and how he uses cold logic. She is his other half, so when he wants to do something logical, she wants to do something kind. They balance each other out, and Max realizes that she might have feelings for Fang. You can see their balancing when they find a bunch of mutants hiding in New York (Patterson, 396), Fangs says “You know, we can’t save them all,” but Max counters back with “I’m supposed to save the whole world, remember.
She inspired him to use words and write “The Standover Man” which brought them closer. Max explained the story of his life to her in the book, and it was all because of the words she used. Throughout the novel The Book Thief there are instances where people used words to create new
At the end of the summer in Freak the Mighty, Freak and Max get to go back to school. Minus the fact that he has never been in one before, Max is put into all advanced classes so he can be with Freak. The reason they are put into classes together is because Freak helps Max write and learn vocabulary by making him look up words he doesn’t know in a dictionary. Freak also helps the teachers understand that Max does know the answers but, he just doesn't like to speak in front of the class. Both in school and out, Max helps Freak with mobility by carrying Freak on his shoulders.
Max wakes up next to Harry, and senses something wrong. She sees a kid with wings and recognizes him. He comes up to her and gives her an extended hug. She loves the contact of her old flock member: “When he folded me into a hug, I loved the way he squeezed me a little too tight, held on a little too long.” (261) As shown here, she is reunited with one of the people that she loves, and she is clearly happy.
