The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald struggled with some things such as poverty himself so while writing The Great Gatsby he dumped parts of his life into the main character Jay Gatsby. Fitzgerald uses color symbolism for many reasons. The american dream is the idea that all americans should have the equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. Gatsby told only the truth no matter what it was tom talked about. Tom knew talking about gatsby's poverty at a young age would crawl under his skin, so he continued to bring up things.
