The First Amendment is the most important, because of freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Many people think that the fourth amendment is the most important. They think this, because it is important for a person to be able to tell policemen “No” if they ask you if they could search your car or your house. I believe that the fourth amendment is really important, but you wouldn’t be able to tell the policemen “No” if you didn’t have freedom of speech. George Washington said,”If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be, like sheep to the slaughter” (“Famous Quotes Freedom of Speech”).Without freedom of speech and religion we are nothing.
The 5th Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the people from the government who may attempt to force a self-incriminating confession for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime. The only time that pleading the fifth is not possible is during presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury that discusses cases arising in the Militia or public danger. What this means in layman terms is that one has the right to remain silent and not have to take the stand during his or her trial. Some people may think that the 14th amendment does a poor job of protecting people’s rights. In document five it explains how on September 11, 2001,with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, it has caused video surveillance in the United States to increase. For example the U.S has programs that use facial recognition that help match photographs of criminals faces to the criminal. Another program that we use helps prevent suicide bombers from attacking. Some people may think that prevention of terrible events reoccuring or occurring is a good thing, but using security systems everywhere may be a violation of their rights and privacy.

Just two years ago a family was arrest for the refusal of letting police officers use their house a sight to look out for domestic abuse, but when they went they didn't have a warrant nor did they ever get one which violated the family's right. The fourth amendment goes along with the third saying that no own can own your house and enter it without a warrant which has been broken just as much as the third amendment has. As well as the 4 amendment i have said above almost all of our amendments have been broken on average 6 times, the amendments shouldn't have been broken at all. Some may argue that the amendments were broken to help us through, one of the amendment that doesn't benefit anyone is the missouri execution act that allowed you to murder a mormon or member of the church of latter day saints without being tried, this act wasn't taken away till 1976, 137 years after the paper was signed that allowed you to kill
The whole point of the Fourth Amendment is not to completely stop the police, because the amendment can be waived if an officer has a warrant, or a person’s consent. The Fourth Amendment states that generally a search or seizure is illegal unless there is a warrant, or special circumstances. Technically stating that a citizen is protected by the Fourth Amendment, until a government employee gets a warrant, and then they can invade a citizen’s privacy. Also people state that the FISA Court’s warrants are constitutional, but the NSA’s surveillance is unconstitutional. Even though people do not like the NSA’s surveillance, the NSA is legal because the FISA Court that the people did not mind makes it legal.
The First Amendment, Freedom of Speech could probably be considered the most powerful amendments of the Constitution. If we didn’t have this right, many of our ideas and beliefs would not be real today. All American citizens have the right to talk about what’s on their minds and say what they believe in. As Derek Bok mentions in his essay and unfortunately for people who disagree, With the Supreme Court’s rulings, the demonstration of these flags clearly falls within the protection of the free-speech clause of the First Amendment and that they can in no way be banned merely because they may seem offensive or may someone else’s feelings. “These rulings apply to all agencies of government, including public universities”.
The main way that it is being disregarded is through the government’s surveillance of calls, text messages, internet browsing, and even phones when they are not being used. One of the most prominent examples of this occurring today is the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 (more commonly known as the USA PATRIOT Act, or simply the patriot act). According to constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead, it “allows officials to sidestep the Fourth Amendment by validating the wholesale disregard of the historic constitutional protections of notice, probable cause, and proportionality,” (Whitehead 1101). Another example of how the right to privacy guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment is being violated can be found in the actions of the Transportation Security Administration, such as searching everyone’s luggage and patting people down before flying. The fourth amendment can be beneficial but, it can also to some U.S. citizens be invasion of privacy.
