You make a strong point , "to appreciate free, one must understand what free really means", I am all ways reminding my children, you must work for what you want and when you do you will appreciate and valve it more. Dr. Loury speaks with no circumscription against his opponents. Therefore, he tries to influence the emotions of the reader by using an accusatory tone when referring to his critics ' ideas as "dangerous." Loury (2013) effectively uses the device of metaphor to help his readers understand his argument when he says, "One could use a color-blind instrument to pursue racial goals and color-conscious instruments to pursue goals that are not necessarily racially defined" (p. 347). Loury doesn 't believe that color-blind policies can guarantee racial equality. But, can 't they?
The author wrote the two chapters in a chronological order to facilitate the understanding of all the events that occurred in the past. Daschuk used sources such as officials’ reports, statistics, and historical documents to support his opinion and give effect to his text. In chapter 6, he used a table to demonstrate the level of deaths. In addition, he included some pictures in order to demonstrate to the readers physically some aspects of his argument. In spite of everything that is done in Shakespeare’s tragic play, ‘King Lear’, we empathise with King Lear and view him as the victim - whether it be of his own folly or that he is at the mercy of his ‘two eldest daughters’. However this itself is not entirely true as Lear is as much of a sinner as his daughters, Lear blindingly plays a part in the his own downfall. Unbeknownst to Lear, as he is blinded with his divine rule, kingship and immense pride, we see him cause an imbalance in the order thus starting a chain reaction of chaos. By causing this imbalance, Lear creates a weakness in his sovereignty, through his own actions as he has allowed those who oppose him to take the opportunity to pry at his weakness and slowly break him down in order to rise and act against him and successfully take him down for their own personal gains.
Taylor Scuorzo d Rhetorical Analysis 3/20/23 Rhetorical Analysis Doing benevolent and selfless things for others can occasionally lead to adverse results. In his enlightening and illuminating commencement address given at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 19, 2018, Jason Reynolds emotionally persuades and informs the graduates at the college through the use of anecdotes and metaphors to show that ignoring the significant problems of the world will not help us fix them. To strengthen his speech, Reynolds uses past personal experiences and the comparison of objects to others to help prove the theme portrayed throughout the speech.
In addition, the negative connotation of “nothing” repeated several times and the breakdown of the language foreshadows a breakdown of the family. As she reasons about her answer, Cordelia also expresses her compassion towards her father through a hyperbole by stating, “Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave my heart into my mouth” (Lear 1.1.93-94). Justifying her response, Cordelia expresses that her love towards him cannot be properly expressed as she contrasts how he has “begot [her], fed [her], loved [her]” and in return she “obeyed [him], loved [him], and most honored [him]” to show that she loves her fathers as much as their relationship requires (Lear 1.1.99-101). Though she speaks from her heart, Lear ultimately rejects her argument, recognizing that she is not worthy of his wealth as expressed through his belittling tone. As a result, Lear blesses his kingdom upon his ungrateful, lying daughters who he believes to have loved him the most when in fact, he exiled the only daughter to have truly loved him.
In this scene, King Lear asks his daughters to speak of their love of their father, and he divides up his kingdom among them according to how greatly they shower him with their love for him. When his youngest and most beloved Cordelia fails to please him, however, Lear promptly banishes her in rage. Similarly, Shakespeare’s King Lear depicts an identical scene in which Lear furiously declares “Here I disclaim all my paternal care” (1.1.125). Lear’s decision to disown Cordelia in haste exhibits lack of patience and foresight. King Lear is an arrogant and powerful individual who is very much aware of his authority. Lear’s most obvious flaw at the start of the play is that he values appearances over reality. It is a striking event how he treats his alleged favourite daughter and how easily he believes the lies he is being fed. Despite this, his quote holds a certain truth to it. As Lear has sinned against Cordelia, his other two daughters have sinned against him. He is right in his words for the reason that, although he was unjust and treated Cordelia disrespectfully, he did it because he felt betrayed.
King Lear discovers that his daughters are becoming uncontrollable and disrespectful, and the Fool describes the reasons why the daughters are behaving this way. This connects to the motif of family by using a juxtaposition. The fool compares the effects of raising a child that is spoiled since birth, and those who were raised without any wealth become well mannered people. This tells us that sometimes, no matter how much you love your children, it may best to provide your children with nothing so they do not become dependant on what you have.
