Sometimes people have to make a hard decision or choice in life when deep down they have to end up letting go of one of the options. In the story, “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” that was brought to life by W.D Wetherell, when the narrator had to make a hard choice of either letting Sheila go or the bass. There are many reasons the narrator had one of the hardest choices, including his immaturity as a teenage boy. The other main reason that it was a hard choice was that he wanted to impress Sheila, and since she didn’t like fishing he had to pretend to be someone he was not. Firstly, in the beginning of the story the narrator had an obsession with Sheila.
Journal 1 I am reading “the bass, the river, and Shelia Mant ” by W.D Wetherill. So far this story is about this boy who likes a girl that joust moved near bass boy. In this journal I will be questioning and As I read this story, I wonder if the narrator will pick bass or Sheila. It is possible that he’ll pick the bass.
Women’s Rights in Canada: Representation in Literature The fight for women’s rights in Canada was one of the largest human rights movements to take place during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and thus is often used as a theme in literature. S. Carelton, is an example of an author who subtly incorporated women’s rights into her work. My research examines how “Lastluck Lake” by S. Carelton was influenced by the women’s rights movement. How does the author show the struggle women went through as they fought for their rights?
This is a good place for the story to take place because the simple cotts illustrate the simplicity that the villagers thought they were living in. All the villagers knew was their own world, their own rules and their own culture, which is illustrated by how surprised Kira was when she learned about her father’s village (204). That simple village was also a good place for the story because it shows how the villagers lived compared to how the Guardians lived, and how much the quality of life improved for the “important people” because of all the power they had. Villagers had to use the stream to wash and the people in the Council Edifice had indoor bathrooms (69). The setting helped develop the conflict because they all had similar cotts, which illustrated how the community was so similar and how anyone who was different was looked down at (43).
In the story E.B. Whites “Once more to the lake”, a story based on a father and a son who go on a camping trip, where White becomes captivated with and stuck in his own childhood. It shows that time passes and people grow of age. When white takes his son to the lake he realizes that even though the lake has barely changed, that time has changed. He has a sense of his son replacing him as he is replacing his dad. It was important to White to take his own son back to the same place because he finally comes to the realization that time doesn’t stop for anyone and that you have to move forward and one day grow old.

In the exposition or introduction, you are introduced to characters, the setting, and the problem. In the exposition of the Scooby Doo episode “The Beast is Awake in Bottomless Lake”, the gang goes to Canada to find a place to camp. The gang includes Scooby Doo; the talking dog, Shaggy; the guy who is with Scooby at all times, Velma; the brains of the gang, as well as Daphne and Fred who are usually the ones who help Velma. In this episode they also run into Mr. LeBeav who owns the gas station, Mr. Taylor who is there to go fishing by himself, and Julie Johnson, the daughter of the owner of the grocery store. However, things don’t go as planned and they run into a hideous monster that is causing problems.
Children and adults rarely see eye to eye when it comes to differences in the past and present. This is because the idea of innovation is perceived differently by individual generations. In the essay “Once More to the Lake” the author E.B. White struggles with the concept of change, while his son accepts the concept of progress when returning to a family lake house. Through the use of imagery and symbolism the essay conveys how the men see the same place differently. White’s son observes the adjustments at the lake house as improvements.
The Interconnectedness of Loss Losing someone is inevitable. Because of that inevitability, people find it hard to move on and forgive. Because of that inevitability, conflicts rise and when comfort and unity is needed, it is not there. Because of that inevitability, people are influenced to do things, whether negative or positive, to ease the pain that they know they have to endure. Just like this, Saints at the River is also conflicted in a similar way.
Forgetting about bad memories Although people cannot automatically delete bad experiences that they went through, they can actually forget about horrible memories from the past because one shouldn’t spend their daily life thinking about their horrible experiences. The essay that led me to this topic is “Under Water” by Anne Fadiman the reason is because Anne tries to think about other things during a crisis such as happy and knowledgeable things, this cause my thoughts to expand. Some articles that I found are “Erasing bad memories” by Stacy Lu, “Can We Erase Bad Memories?” by Brian Wiltgen, “Selectively Deleting Memories” By Lauren Gravitz and “Erasing Memories” by Emily Singer. There are ways in which people can forget their bad memories and some ways are shown in articles and other texts.

Tim O’Brien expresses his rebuke of numerous ways, including how the war has changed modern warfare. He also displays his views in an anti-war tone, speaking out against the war itself and the individual damage it has caused.
