Why is so much emphasis placed on female beauty? Over the past decade a lot of songs have been made about females getting dolled up to impress a man or boasting on being able to get a man because of looks. These days, the lyrics of songs on the Top forty list are nothing to boast about. The music Industry is filled with so many songs about getting a man to appreciate you or floating a particular body size. Due to the widespread use of technology, young girls who are still trying to gain confidence feel the need to live up to this standards they see all around them. Instead of so much emphasis being put on female beauty, a more diverse viewpoint is what is needed and even more importantly, less emphasis on female beauty.

We know that shit ain’t real, c’mon now make it stop. If you got beauty beauty, just raise em up, cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top”. Here she encourages women to embrace their bodies and feel confident, which is immensely empowering. This is honestly the best verse in the entire song because, without bashing any body type or relying on men, she succeeds in telling females to confident about their bodies and how they look. But again she contradicts this empowering verse by stating: “Yeah my mama she told me don’t worry about your size, she says boys like a little more booty to hold at night”. Her mum telling her not to worry about her size is agreeable, since being healthy is what is important, but the lyric about what boys like to hold at night basically says it’s ok if you are this body type because boys prefer it anyway. This sends the message that because a boy has “affection” for a girl it justifies her self-worth. As blogger Jenny Trout stated; the message isn’t really “I have value, even though I don’t fit the mold I’ve been told I should fit”, but, I”I have value, in fact I have more value than some other women who don’t share my body type, because I’m the one the man should be attracted
It explains how women are obsessed with trying to be the ideal woman in the world. The message behind making the song was finding beauty in imperfection. The music video also showed younger Beyoncé accepting an award for a singing performance. Sia Furler wrote the song and when Beyoncé heard it she wanted it for herself, she knew it would be perfect for her
Customer Experiences The customer experiences at Ulta Beauty are a part of what keeps its customers coming back and, in a lot of cases, part of its Ultamate Rewards Program. These customer experiences can be seen in the comments and replies on Ulta Beauty’s social media accounts, but also in personal posts from customers, as well as in YouTube videos. Ulta Beauty recognizes this and has begun to reach out to some of the makeup and beauty “gurus” on YouTube and social media (see Figure 5). YouTube in particular has become a large platform for vloggers (video bloggers) to create content in the realm of hair and beauty.
The first verse begins with "I like big butts and I cannot lie", and most of the song is about the rapper's attraction to large buttocks. The second and third verse challenge mainstream norms of beauty: "I ain't talkin' 'bout Playboy/'Cause silicone parts are made for toys" and "So Cosmo says you're fat/ Well I ain't down with that!". Sir Mix-a-Lot commented in a 1992 interview: "The song doesn't just say I like large butts, you know? The song is talking about women who damn near kill themselves to try to look like these beanpole models that you see in Vogue magazine."
A girl can be seen as beautiful and attractive, but continued to be shunned - all because they don’t wear the latest trends in fashion (but what if they like wearing solid colors or nerdy shirts from Walmart?). They may have a great personality that would attract many suitors in the nineteenth century, but if it is not up to the status of some people, they’re deemed unworthy. It is honestly one of the saddest things I have witnessed and experienced. Through The Body Project, Brumberg explains how American girls have shifted from judging a girl through her personality and internal character to judging through her appearance.
In Tyler Shields 2015 film “Final Girl”, seventeen-year-old trained assassin Veronica, played by Abigail Breslin, is sent on her first mission to kill four teenage boys that have been murdering girls in the woods. Where in a typical slasher setup there is one, typically male, killer murdering a group of teens; in Final Girl there is one female assassin murdering a group of killer boys. The film is set in a modernized version of 1950’s small town America and explores themes of gendered violence and the monstrous masculine. Final Girl desires to posit the villain in society as being capitalist white supremacist patriarchy and the consequences of violence that arise when its entitlement is left unchecked. It is successful in doing this to some
Throughout the history women were treated badly and unevenly. Women were trying to gain their rights and being independent. However, their chance of gaining rights always been beaten down by the unequal treatment and gender discrimination. For example, women worked in factories with low wages and long hours. In spite of the unequal treatment, women became independent after WWI.
Women suffrage has been present through out American History. Our culture forces women to fall into certain stereotypes. Mary Tyrone, in Eugene O’Neil ’s Long day journey into the night, struggles with certain cultural surroundings that messes with her psychological state. Gender roles for women, including isolation and obeying the man of the house, is what eventually leads to her drug abuse and causes her to ignore her reality by escaping into the past.
The beauty in this era covered was a wide range of years, allowing different influences to develop. Women were praised for their natural features and body types. The ideal woman was that on the more voluptuous side, paintings from the Renaissance period often focused on women who would today be considered overweight. Her bust would appear full of no signs of bones. The ideal female would also have pale skin, unlike the tanned look that is popular in our modern day.
How did the beauty ideal evolve throughout the years? The ideal of the perfect human body can been seen as a result of culture. Every culture is different or differs in at least a few aspects. A lot of factors in a culture contribute to the formation of a beauty ideal.
The opposition argues that women are objectifying themselves by the things they wear, say, sing about, and act out. Beyoncé’s music is a common example in how women objectify themselves. Her lyrics in her songs are about men liking what they see and coming up to her. Here she is objectifying herself to attract men and this is not the man’s fault. Women need to take some responsibility and they take part in the objectification.
Have you ever wondered why you were born when you were born? How much different life would be if you were born in a different time? How it would be similar? Humans have changed tremendously throughout time, particularly women. Although gender inequality is still an issue today, women have gained so many rights throughout the years.
In his documentary film “why beauty matters” English philosopher Roger Scruton introduces the idea of beauty is disappearing from our world. The philosopher implies, that Art has become ugly, as well as our physical surroundings, manners, language, and music. Nowadays, the main aim of art is to disturb and break moral taboos. It has now lost its initial duty and is used to show solely the ugliness of our world, instead of taking what is most painful in the human condition and redeeming it in the work of beauty. What according to Scruton is the main purpose of art.
Fashion, or rather the fashion industry, is ageist, sexist, racist, fattist and fascist, but only in so far as today’s society is. This industry is merely an extension of capitalism, and as such its only concern is generating as much profit as possible. Trying to include and represent all different types of people is very low on its priority list, so it continues to perpetuate harmful societal patterns, be it on purpose or not. The most blatant case of sexism in fashion is that women in this industry are by and large models, while the more powerful and influential positions of designers, managers and directors are usually taken by men.
The History of Beauty Umberto Eco raises the question in his work ‘why is the history of beauty documented solely through works of art?’ As Eco states, art is what we are left as examples. As a result, it gives us an insight into beauty standards throughout time and of different cultures around the world. Furthermore, artists ideally strive to create something that is appealing to the eye of the viewer, but also what the artist themselves envisions as beauty.
Gender Equality is the only way forward. What is gender equality? Gender equality is achieved when all genders enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision-making, and when the different behaviors, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favored.
