Other common stereotypes that have been used negatively to describe Native Americans are the following ones: All Indigenous people are alcoholics; Native Americans are lazy or all Native Americans live in reservations; just a few to mention.

In today’s society, it’s hard to not come across stereotypes placed on others by others. And when I make reference to others I mean, media and ourselves as groups of friends and companions. Most of these single sided views and ideas stem from small truths. However these truths are somewhat altered and exaggerated ideas given a negative outlook/ perception. On the people or group who are faced with the judgement of these single sided views. So in reality how true are these stereotypes.

Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion.

Stereotypically, Americans are seen as terrible people to be around when traveling. They are thought to be loud, obnoxious, and very close-minded about the way people live in other countries. In The Ugly American we see these stereotypes being presented throughout the novel by those in higher positions. There are two different types of ugly Americans, One is being physically unattractive, Homer Atkins, while the other is ugly through actions, Louis Sears. In my paper I will be stating the matter of which makes a person an ugly American.

The label of white trash even existing is seen to be appalling because of the former notion of white citizens being the alphas and that angered other White Americans(Eastman & Schrock pg 207). Stereotypes were and are a problem but Southern Rock & Roll musicians embraced theirs and appropriated with it because of capitalism. While no one deserves to be put into a category based on prejudice, White Americans made their stereotypes a positive while minorities struggled and still continue to struggle everyday due to stigmas placed on them.

Stereotypical images have for long existed. Stereotypes are images or ideas about certain groups of people or things that in most cases are not true. Hispanic Americans are one of the many groups that are targeted the most with stereotypes. Hispanics are said to be drug dealers. Many Americans claim that Hispanics come to this country to sale drugs and as a result of this the country becomes in danger. However, the majority of Hispanics who come to this country come to live the American dream. Hispanics come in search of jobs to support their families back in their native countries. The purpose this report is written is to investigate the consequences of Asian stereotypes in America and how it has affected the teenagers living in America. This topic has been widely studied by many researchers to find a correlation between Asian stereotypes and the effects on them.

Being a fast food worker for the past year and a half, I have been exposed to numerous different types of people, and most of them are not the same race as me. When I first started to get to know them, even though at times there was difficulty communicating, we were able to make it work and build stronger relationships. One of my favorite managers was Rose, a Hispanic woman who had been so kind to me. She was an example of someone who was able to teach me things about herself I could have stereotyped and not taken the time to learn anything about her as an individual.

These three generalizations of certain groups are considered your typical stereotypes (Neuberg). Whether they are gender or racially based there is a swarm of stereotypes constantly popping up in our culture today, both good and bad. Notice the examples I gave above were either neutral or positive, thus appearing to exhibit a “feel good” atmosphere. However, many take offense to stereotypes, regardless of the intent because they are often times derogatory and assumptive. (The case against). There is a group that is frequently misrepresented and discriminated within American society. That group is the black community. African Americans, though having more rights than ever before, are still greatly stereotyped through media, in a negative and an undesirable manner. When I say the words African American most people think of crime, violence, drugs and watermelon, to name a few. “Straight Outta Compton” by the N.W.A. enforces the negative stereotype of African Americans through promoting narcotics, guns, and murder. Though within recent times, some media has begun to counter these negative portrayals of African Americans such as the hit T.V show “Empire” that effectively captures the success of the people within the black community.

The constant bombardment of negative associations of minorities affects how the public views those within these groups. Unconsciously people are affected by these images even those within the Black community. A study in 2006 showed that Blacks that watched a lot of television tended to have more distrust for their neighbors, be less likely to join groups and have a negative attitude toward their neighbors than their, White counter parts viewing the same things. (Beaudoin & Thorson, 2006). These types of problems are only furthering the divide between racial groups. Studies have also shown that those with less real world contact with people of other ethnic groups they are more likely to believe and be influenced by the images shown by the media

So this is something I am really going to talk about. The word Stereotype, don’t you just love the word? If you don’t know what stereotyping is, I will tell you (THIS IS MY OWN DEFINITION). When you stereotype, you are exaggerating an idea about a certain group. This is horrible because this is saying that everyone is a certain way; and they can’t be anything else. That is putting everyone in a certain category, making people feel isolated, especially if they are young.

National Security within the United States has been a concern since the 1930s and is only heightened during times of war. Naturally, due to the conflicts with particular countries, World War II and the Cold War created racial stereotypes. Asian Americans are hugely diverse, originating from about fifty nations and ethnic gatherings, each with particular societies, conventions, and histories, and they talk more than 100 dialects and tongues, but we keep having that stereotype of Asian Americans favorite food is rice and “parts of animals” when we don’t know anything about them and of course we can’t ensure, I can take as an example this article written by a Stanford professor who claims that Vietnamese are aggressive because the only thing they eat is rats, birds and dogs.

Namely, prejudices are formed from one’s upbringing, family background, influences of the media as well as, world history. As, we all know African Americans have been a target of prejudices as well as being discriminated against since they were stolen from Africa, this is a historical fact as well as, several movies such as Roots.
