Ever been accused of manslaughter or been called a racist? Well George Zimmerman has, in the Trayvon Martin case. Many people do believe that George Zimmerman is a racist and a murderer. George Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty towards the Trayvon Martin case. Zimmerman is the neighborhood watch volunteer. Zimmerman said that he shot Trayvon in self-defense. The state of Florida has a law stating “stand your ground”. Zimmerman was the only witness of the death of Martin. The Florida law is if anyone use a deadly weapon of any sort, they have the right of defending themselves if in or outside their home.
“The Monsterization of Trayvon Martin,” by Patricia J. Williams, is an article written about the demonization of a young black man after his killer was put on trial and, ultimately, was acquitted of any charges against him. I would not say that the writer, Williams, is emotional. But their argument certainly focuses on pathos. She describes how the young man was changed from an innocent boy to an “immense, drug-addled ‘thug’” in the eyes of the public in comparison to both the treatment that the accused received, as well as compared to a similar yet racially reversed death that had occurred in 2007. Williams also uses ethos, while questioning whether the “stand your ground” law that was in question was ethically fair, pointing out that it’s
It’s been 4 years since the killing of Trayvon Martin and the verdict still hasn’t ended the debate about his death. Many supporters believe that his murder was a cowardly act by one George Zimmerman who shot and killed Martin. It was the night of February 26 when Martin went to a nearby 7-eleven to buy himself a snack. Wearing the hood of his grey shirt over his head, he paid the store clerk and left. He was walking back to his father’s house, where he was staying after he had been suspended from school.
We feel that the only reason why Zimmerman was not found guilty is because he is a white American from the majority group. In the other hand, if Zimmerman was a black man, and Trayvon Martin was a white teenager then Zimmerman
There were different stories about the encounter; according to Zimmerman, Trayvon was the one that attacked him after he was returning to his car. Trayvon punched him in the nose, and he yelled for help, and it got to the point where Zimmerman felt he could not breathe; however, Jeantel stated Trayvon was the one yelling for Zimmerman to get off before the call ended. During the altercation, Zimmerman thought Trayvon was going for his firearm, so he "grabbed it immediately," saying, "I just pulled my firearm and shot him" (George Zimmerman trial). This case was tried as self-defense, and the jury found Zimmerman "not guilty of murder or manslaughter, but the jury agreed that Mr. Zimmerman could have been justified in shooting Mr. Martin because he feared great bodily
It is said that Zimmerman allegedly killed Martin because of his color and what he was dressed in, also known as racial profiling. In an article
And because it’s so impassioned, it’s typically disproportionate to the original injury—meaning that it usually can’t be viewed as just. The punishment may fit the crime, but it’s often an exaggerated response to another’s perceived offense. (And I use the qualifier “perceived” purposely here. For take the Florida case of George Zimmerman’s fatal 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. Not only does such an instance exemplify the wrongheadedness sometimes linked to vigilante justice but, as many (if not most) people would agree, Zimmerman’s ultimate acquittal represented a serious miscarriage of justice—especially in light of the gunman’s anti-social conduct and legal infractions subsequent to the case.)
“Racial profiling punishes innocent individuals for the past actions of those who look and sound like them…” Civil Rights activist, Benjamin Jealous’ words are very relevant to the case of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin was murdered at age seventeen by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch patrol in his neighborhood, where Martin also lived. Zimmerman called 911 to report Martin as a “real suspicious guy” “a black male” walking around the neighborhood. Martin wore a hoodie on his way home from 7-Eleven with intentions of going home, but Zimmerman continued to follow Martin.
Trayvon Martin the Second Emmett Till Trayvon Martin’s death was a tragedy. Emmett Till’s death was a tragedy. These deaths have similarities to the extreme. The biggest difference is the 56 years which separate them.
On February 26, 2012, 17-year-old high school student, Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman during the night. To this day, there are some things that are unclear. The topic of privacy from the government has always been a controversial in the United States. Some argue that with a society full of cameras and surveillances, it allows for a safer community and reduces crime. However, there are also those who disagree and would rather have their lives be more private and less exposed to cameras.
Zimmerman of profiling Trayvon as a criminal, following him and triggering the confrontation that ended with the teen's death” (The Australian). Wrobleski says that prosecutors took the position that Trayvon Martin was an innocent unarmed, African American boy. Being racially profiled, stalked, and killed by George Zimmerman who had a holster gun and used it on an unarmed boy. It specified in the report that Trayvon Martin was unarmed and, “ran toward the defendant, and once the victim was eight to twelve feet away, the defendant shot him four times, killing him” (Wrobleski 103) Before Trayvon Martin was shot, Zimmerman was talking to the dispatcher and evidence shows that Zimmerman specified that Martin looked like a criminal: “...This guy looks like he’s up to no good or he’s on drugs or something.
This situation was very tragic because someone was murdered for the way they appeared. This watchman has now set a bad reputation for the rest of the community. After the death of Trayvon Martin so many crimes has happened where blacks were innocently killed by white police officers. It is very important that people are aware of their surroundings because anything can happen to anyone. People should not assume anything about anyone because most likely what is assumed is never true.

Implicit bias is defined as attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. These stereotypes are brought upon us by everyday interactions, ideas, and experiences shared with other people. Culpable ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge or understanding that results from the omission of ordinary care to acquire such knowledge or understanding. While listening to other people you may feel as if they are telling the complete truth and that there is no other side of their story. The time that you decide to not look any further into their stereotypical thoughts is the moment you become a victim of implicit bias and also become culpably ignorant because you know that there may be something
Racism remains a dilemma. We do not need to look any further than the leader of the free world for proof. Trump made an example of prominent black athletes when he called for the firing of NFL players who do not stand for the National Anthem; called Colin Kaepernick a “son of a bitch,” and rescinded the Golden State Warriors visit to the White House after Stephen Curry was reluctant to meet the President. Trump has similarly targeted Muslims with an irrational travel ban, pledged to build a wall on the Mexican border and he continues to taunt North Korea.
For example, in the Trayvon Martin case, George Zimmerman claimed that he was utilizing the “stand your ground” law, which allows murder in the case of self-defense. There is no cap on the amount of people that a police officer can kill, and police officers know that there is not a large amount of consequences if they kill
