The context of Andrew Carnegie is the robber baron. Industrialisation the expansion of factories and the mass production of manufactured goods like steel. The Industrial Revolution of the early 1900s set the foundation for the rise of Carnegie steel. While some say Andrew Carnegie is a caption of industry because he wanted to help others who were poor evidence suggests he is a robber baron because he made the vertical monopoly which makes it harder to compete with him and he had very poor working conditions and even killed some people with those horrible conditions. Andrew Carnegie made it hard for anyone else to produce steel and other various items so he could eliminate his competition which he pretty much did.
One of the most successful captains of industry was Andrew Carnegie, who entered the steel business and created the Carnegie Steel Company shortly after. By 1899, the steel company manufactured more steel than all of the factories in Great Britain combined. His success was due to the management practices that he initiated. He continually searched for ways to make better products at a lower cost and incorporated new machinery and techniques that helped with tracking precise costs. In addition, he attracted talented people by offering them stock in the company.

Andrew Carnegie's parents were poor immigrants from Scotland and began to work their way up to be business leaders. Carnegie built the largest steel company and created a monopoly.
Once he left, he dedicated most of his time to the steel industry, later resulting in his business called the Carnegie Steel Company which revolutionized steel production in the U.S. From this he started to build plants around the country, using technology and methods that made it faster and more efficient to manufacture steel. This made him a very wealthy man and he continued this for a few more years. Carnegie used a system of vertical integration to maintain his market dominance. Vertical integration is essentially the merging together of two businesses that are at different stages of production. This is when a company expands its business operations into different steps yet on the same production path; an example would be when a manufacturer owns its supplier and/or distributer.
Andrew Carnegie was born in 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland, but immigrated to the United States in 1848 with his parents. Carnegie became famous for practicing what he preached, as he would fund public libraries and gave money to charities.
ANDREW CARNEGIE—THE ROBBER BARON Andrew Carnegie was one of the greatest of the tycoons of industry in the late nineteenth century, also being one of the greatest of the robber barons of the late nineteenth century. A Robber Baron is an owner of business who puts others down to gain fame and fortune. During a time of laissez faire, which is French for let alone, meaning government stays out of the business of others, any business owner could do whatever they wanted with their industry and workers—Carnegie took advantage of this by paying workers little salary and poor treatment. Some say that his past dictated what his future would be like—growing up poor meant others should grow up poor. With all of his money and power, he considered himself

Andrew Carnegie, captain of industry or a robber baron? The answer is surprisingly basic. Carnegie was a captain of industry and this is obvious, between his come up to his passing it creates a clear picture of a man who wanted to advance society. Now I won't discredit the fact that some may see him as a robber baron due to his ruthlessness in the field of business or how he didn't give enough pay to his workers, but if you think about it just a little bit he was a businessman meaning he had to make decisions that at the end of the day benefitted him and his business. I have 3 main points as to why he was a captain of industry.
