One of the biggest reasons Rome fell is because the military. The military started to become sluggish and weak. Since this happened soldiers fought the goths without any protection for their chests and heads (doc B.) This made it so soldiers were easily killed in battle by archers. Adding on to that Soldiers were exposed to wounds because they have no armour so they would think about running and not fighting (doc B.) Senators, bureaucrats, clergymen, cooks, bakers, and slaves all avoided the draft not giving enough people into to military (doc B.) It became very easy for anyone around them to invade and take over land. These are all reasons the military effected the fall of Rome.
I agree that Rome was not overthrown by external enemies but was defeated by its own internal problems. The fall of Rome was mainly due to internal problems because the Romans were only fulfilling their own needs, the law were not reliable and the struggle with the right emperor led to the end of Rome. These internal problems made the empire unstable and led to external problems.
Series of plagues began to hit the Rome Empire by the 2nd century. These plagues lowered the population drastically. This loss of population made it hard to find laborers and soldiers for war. This caused the empire to pay Germanic soldiers to fight for them. The need to pay for troops created a large debt for the Romans. Another reason that led to the decline of the Roman Empire was their water source coming in through lead pipes. Many people believed this poisoned the Romans which also led to low population. The upper class of Rome gradually became more selfish and turned away from their jobs that once originally characterized their empire. Cultural decline caused by new commitments of the upper classes and lack of political authority also lead to the downfall of Rome. All these conflicts resulted in a spiral that steadily worsened. Explaining why the fall pf Rome left a bigger impact than the fall of the Han.
Many people argue that the culture of the Ancient Romans reflect that of the United States today. While there have been many advancements over the course of the years, a few basic principles still apply and can be seen in the United States today. Although there a few key differences that can be seen between the two cultures, it is important that one focuses on similarities to see how the United States has developed as a whole. Roman culture was similar to what the United States is today by the form of government and types of entertainment.
Given these reasons, it can be concluded of how Rome fell. Rome was too big and when plagues were brought over and were spread, it decreased the population and hassled the economic life because they didn’t have the resources to pay back the Germanic soldiers. When social and military issues came into play, it led to great cities being lost. Lastly, the reason the contributed the most to the fall of Rome was the weak or selfish emperors and the state being ruined because the government was not following the spirit of past
In closing, there are five factors that led to the decline of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Many different things caused the fall. There is no one answer to why it happened. It is very probable, however that the fall was inevitable. It was going to happen because the society was going to grow out of the republic. The empire was going to come around, and these factors pushed
Rome was very significant because it controlled most of Europe and it also had a lot of european culture. Rome fell after the rulers that came in the next century, didn’t know how to deal with Rome’s growing problems and it’s giant empire, therefore Rome began to fall. There were many contributions to the fall of Rome. For example, trade was disrupted, there was limited space and they began to lack new sources of gold and silver. Some people may argue that the Age Of Faith and The Dark Ages are the best labels to describe the era between 500 and 1500 in Europe. The best label to describe this time period is The Age Of Feudalism because the documents show what it was, how it began and how it helped.
“The Roman world was shaken by a violent and destructive earthquake. Fifty thousand people lost their lives.” (Fall of Rome, Doc F) The earthquake had vanquished many lives and destroyed plenty of their land. This was a factor of their downfall because of how big the damage was to Rome. “More important in initiating the process of the decline was a series of plagues that swept over the empire. The population of Rome decreased from a million people to 250,000.” (Fall of Rome, Doc F) With that many people dead, the economy worsened and left Rome to face the fact that their power was no longer there. The economy of Rome was also suffering. Rome was importing goods from its colonies but wasn’t exporting nearly as much because of all the deaths. This created the imbalance of trade. The colonies were creating their own finished goods and no longer relied on Rome for them. New coins were then made out of lead and gold to devalue the currency. Merchants now charged more money because these new coins were not worth as much as the old ones. This created inflation, this problem plagued the empire until its
Rome fell because of many other reasons but the main reason Rome fell were because of weak leadership, military weakness and economic problems here is why.
While the two first reasons are important, the primary reasons that Rome fell was because of the military they had. Document B shows that “Foot soldiers wore breastplates and helmets...but when, because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned.” This all comes to show how it weakened Rome. This was the most important factor in Rome’s fall because the military was what protected the people and Rome. If it wasn’t for military Rome would have fallen a lot faster and there would have been no protection for anybody.
One of the main reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire was the many political problems. The main issue that led to the demise of the Western Roman Empire were the line of unfit rulers. These leaders would lie, cheat, and steal to get the most power they could. Though the leaders of Rome were not all bad, it was very regular to have an incompetent, greedy leader. Another major political issue was the emperor's bodyguards who were not to be trusted and were sometimes paid to assassinate the leader themselves. These were some of the first major problems that started the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
Their dependency on Slaves lead to down fall also they had a lack of slaves I believe after they had conquered all that they could that have to other societies to gain slaves from and the adoption of Christianity lead to letting slaves go and without slaves much of the work stop getting done from civil work projects to daily task such as farming. There are many reason that Rome failed and they all worked
The fall of Classical Rome and Han China had both similar reasons and different reasons for their downfall. Rome collapsed from the inside and was invaded a lot. Han China also collapsed from the inside because of lack of money. They were also invaded frequently. They both fell from similar reasons although there was some differences.
First of all, one of the dominant reasons for the fall of Rome was the slothfulness of the army. According to the Document B Vegetius excerpt, “... because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned.” The military stopped doing parade ground drills.
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD. There were many factors that went into the fall of the Roman Empire. Economic problems they dealt with was one of the main reasons the Empire fell. Since the romans were not doing good Economically they could not fund the military in order to protect them, which also led to the fall of their military. Socio-Political problems were also a factor; there was a decline in interest to public affairs. While that was happening a civil war was going on. The military was in bad shape and was interfering with the politics. The three Major causes of the the Fall of Rome were Economic Problems, Socico-Politcal problems, and external invasions that lead to the country not being able to protect itself.
