When it comes to success, the necessary factor people would always refer to is either their hard work or the luck in the process of success which would bring them opportunities. Just like Bryan Cranston, a famous American actor said, “Luck is a component that a lot of people in the arts sometimes fail to recognize: that you can have talent, perseverance, patience, but without luck you will not have a successful career.”(Frank 2016) However, Colin Powell, the 65th United States Secretary of State and also a retired four-star general in the United States Army, said that, “A dream doesn 't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work”(Colin Powell 2003) Certainly, people would always view things differently from their own perspectives. For example, teachers are always telling their students that only working hard enough could they get success instead of depending on the good luck. whereas entrepreneurs would usually say that it is the good luck that brings them good chances in their business which lead them to success. However, on the other hand, if students sometimes do better in their study because of the good fortune, they may feel more confident and then even do better than their own expectations in the future. Similarly, almost each businessman works hard to acquire a lot of knowledge to lay the foundation before they could make correct decisions to speculate …show more content…

The first concept is lucky opportunities. In the book Outliers Gladwell explains how many successful people receive luckey opportunities to make people successful in the future. He elaborates on how people who are successful normally did not get there on their own and explains how being at the right place at the right time can be the difference between success and failure. In Society today we believe that in order to be and become successful is all dependent on an individual's personality and their character. In Malcolm Gladwell’s book the “Outliers” he states that success is based and controlled by outside forces and that everyone in the world is granted certain opportunities, chances, and are given certain advantages that not everyone else in the world are given. Even though Gladwell’s ideas are supported by a ton of evidence he ultimately forgets to factor in the effects determination and hard work can have on someone’s success. Gladwell fails to realize that a people can succeed simply just because they want to.
People have been successful repeatedly, but is there a pattern between wildly successful people? Do they have a secret to success that we can’t identify? Those who took the path instead of believing they will inherit success, including people like Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Oprah Winfrey. Two particular people who have followed the path to success are Althea Gibson and Barbara Jordan. Defying many obstacles as gender discrimination and racism, they are key figures in history today.
Think of success like watching a tree grow the branches split into different paths one can take each split is another opportunity to prosper and grow beautiful leaves like trophies. An uncommon belief is that the process of becoming successful is like a tree branch, if one starts off strong, more paths appear growing from the sturdy branch, and achieving goals lead to leaves growing to show wealth. “It is those who are successful, in other words, who are most likely to be given the kinds of special opportunities that lead to further success,” (Gladwell 30). Author of nonfiction book Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell, agrees with this uncommon belief, in his book he argues that success does not come from intelligence or passion
In contrast to the above statement, Margaret Mead also reveals the truth about what people really feel about success. Yes, we are raised to admire those who succeed in Hollywood and other places, but do we really rejoice in everyone 's success? Margaret Mead thinks we don 't, and she is absolutely right. She says that "we tend to regard the success of people close at hand, within our own small group, as a threat." From experience, this statement proves very true.
A quote that perfectly shows that one is able to succeed is the following, “We are partners, Gary said. We are a family. We are Holsted and Crandall Marine Supply. He says I have good ideas, like the time I told him to have a coffee place. People like to drink coffee when they shop.

Gladwell states, “Successful people don’t do it alone.” (119). No matter what people do there is not a time when they aren’t surrounded by factors that will affect them. Factors like society, wealth, or family can change your path to your future. Wes Moore became a successful man who achieved his dreams of becoming a Rhodes Scholar, honored veteran, and great leader.

Success may be described as the realization of any goal.
Success is something that every person looks at differently and in America it is something that is strived for every step of the way by most typical people. Ways that success is approached are different depending on what drives a person, whether it's competitiveness or a strive for greatness. A competitive approach to success is described in Margaret Mead's essay The Egalitarian Error when she writes, "For many Americans, the concept of success is a source of confusion. As a people, we Americans greatly celebrate and admire the one who gets the highest grades, the one voted most attractive or most likely to succeed.
If everyone was given amazing opportunities, the world would be ten times more successful. One’s cultural legacy and most of the opportunities that come along are merely by chance. One does not get to decide when they were born, what nationality they are, etc. The only controllable aspect is hard work.
