The book The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow describes the laws that were put in place after the Civil War, Jim Crow laws. These laws were created to discriminate and disenfranchise blacks. It blocked the educational, economic, social growth and opportunities for black southerners. Blacks could not vote or serve on juries. Black people had to eat, drink, and go to school in a separate place from whites.
The Jim Crow Laws were a series of rigid anti-black laws throughout the southern states. These laws follow a belief that whites were superior to blacks (Jim Crow Museum: Origins of Jim Crow 1). Jim Crow was rooted from an African American culture song and made sure that blacks used different schools, prisons, transportation, telephones, housing, bathrooms, and even games. Whites and blacks were never allowed to marry and black were not allowed to vote (American Historama 1). Many states could impose legal punishment if a person with a different race were to consort with a white (Jim Crow Laws 1).
Jim Crow laws were used to legally segregate African Americans from whites after slavery was eliminated. These laws were “separate but equal” and justified by the Supreme Court in the Plessy vs Ferguson case. Most of the Jim Crow laws prevented mixed couples from marrying. The laws even physically separated blacks from whites in public places such as restaurants and schools. There were penalties to be faced if anyone was caught opposing or breaking the laws.
Most slaves lived on enormous plantations that stretched all the way across the South. Field slaves were slaves that la-bored in a little group controlled by what was called a slave driver, who was usually another slave worker. Women usually worked as cooks, maids, and nurses for both the master’s and mistress’s children. Slaves were very well known for being skilled workers, working as carpenters, blacksmiths, and coopers. The younger female slaves generally worked as babysitters for the smaller infants or just helped with small chores around the house.
One of the Jim Crow laws states that “A black male could not offer any part of his body to a White woman because he risked being accused of rape”(a). Tom Robinson would know of this rule and would not even shake hands with Mayella, let alone kiss her. He would know that if anyone saw him going into her house he could be accused of rape. However, if he didn’t enter her house when she asked, he would be accused of not showing “superiority to blacks in all important ways”, another Jim Crow law. Since, Tom knows of these rules he makes the decision to enter her house and show respect, but when he see’s Mr. Ewell approaching her house he runs in fear of being accused of rape.
The Holocaust is about the killing of six million of Jews that included women, men, and children by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Hitler convince germans that the jews were the cause of their problems. With that they started to put restrictions on jews like where they could shop, eat, how long they could be out, and other cruel things that no one should have been through.
THE YEAR IS 2009. Citizens of the United States enjoy freedom, privileges, and for many, an opportunity to participate in the “American dream.” BUT, approximately 40 years ago this was not true for African Americans living in the South. I reside in Columbia, South Carolina, and today as I sit and watch people – Black people, White people, - people of all races -walk with their lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers, sit, and enjoy a family summer concert at Finlay Park, I can’t help but wonder, how many people know of the struggle?

Also because evil can be considered anything nowadays with an abundance of different belief systems in this country, and all over the world, evil acts are always happening and will continue to happen. Mass incarceration and police brutality are just a few social evils that are being committed in the United States that are really changing us as a society and what ‘The New Jim Crow’ has to do with it. As I stated before, social evils are issues in which in one way or another affects members of a society and is often considered controversial or problematic in terms of moral values.
Jim Crow laws were laws in the United States between 1877 and the 1950’s that held back African Americans from reaching their full potential and limited their rights. In the Late 1800s, there was an era called the Jim Crow Era. Jim Crow was a character that was created in 1863 by white men to amuse white people. This character began to grow to symbolize one of the most tragic events in American history, known as, racism. African-Americans would become slaves simply because they were African-American in 1865. The Nazi’s got their power in 1933, they thought they were the “Master Race” and other’s lower than them were hated and tortured or killed (Steele 6). After the Nazi’s took power their final solution was to erase all Jews, other religions, and anyone who stood in their way (Steele 6). The Holocaust took place all over Europe but some of the main places the Holocaust took place in were Germany, Poland, and Hungary (Blohm 10), (Ghettos). People that were involved in the Holocaust were Nazis, Jews, other religions, and politicians (Steele 6-7).
The Holocaust was the state sponsored murder of over six million Jews. The Germans targeted multiple different groups due to their racial inferiority, such as the gypsies, the disabled, or homosexuals. The Jews were the Nazi genocides main target, however the other minority groups were treated horribly as well. All of these individuals were treated ruthlessly without mercy, and they had no way out. The prisoners of the camps were forced to complete extremely difficult labor, and on top of it they were horribly mistreated and some were eventually executed.
