Jimi Hendrix was one of the most well known guitarists of the sixties. He was a gifted songwriter with his own unmistakable sound, which is nothing short of a miracle, considering he could not read or write (Blake, 2014). Jimi pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar creating sounds never heard on a guitar. Jimi Hendrix was not born into stardom, nor was it given to him by any means. He strived all throughout his life to be the very best musician. Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington to his parents Al and Lucille Hendrix (The famous people, 2017). He enlisted on May 31, 1961 and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, where he was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Hendrix had a rebellious attitude, slept on duty and required constant supervision. According to reports, he was a "habitual offender" when it came to missing midnight bed checks and was unable to "carry on an intelligent conversation"(Famous veterans, 2018). He was not liked by his fellow soldiers because he constantly played guitar and kept them up at night. Although Hendrix signed up for three years of service, Captain Gilbert Batchman had enough after one year, and made the case for Hendrix to be discharged. His problems were judged to not be treatable by "hospitalization or counseling." Jimi didn't spend much time in the military, it is easy to say he was not cut out for it because of his constant shenanigans. Thankfully the military's loss was a gain for the rock music …show more content…
He met a soldier named Billy Cox who played the bass. Together they formed a band named King Kasulas and performed regularly at a night club in Nashville, Tennessee. As Jimi grew in the industry he was booked for bigger and more popular shows. His performance at Woodstock was one of the greatest moments in pop music history. He was a smaller act in a line up of amazing artists that night yet his fret work was still astonishing for his time. Fringed out and wearing a headband, Jimi blew the audience away at Woodstock with his white Stratocaster (Wolfe, 2015). Jimi had many famous performances some of which included Fillmore East, NJ, and Berkeley College Community Theater. Jimi later took a trip to London, and while he was there he met Michael Jeffery, who helped him create and manage The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The group then performed its first hit single, titled "Hey Joe” in a stage show in London. The first album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience was named Are You Experienced? In 1967, the band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience broke apart due to a contractual dispute between Jimi and his producer Ed Chalpin in

There is Linda Kieth who discovers him and provides him with the guitar. She is the one that sets him up with his manager, Chas Chandler. Without Kieth, Jimi Hendrix would never exist. He follows her words and listens to her advice. He eventually meets Kathy Etchingham, who becomes his girlfriend.
Through his flamboyant personality on stage and incredible guitar skills Jimi was able to captivate any audience he performed to. "He was a very adorable person, very easygoing, very charming - quite innocent, really, given that he'd grown up in such a hard way,” says Norman. Hendrix would be thrown into international fame through his performances at the Atoisa Theatre in London and the Monterey international Pop Festival in California. After gaining his fame, in 1967 Jimi would do a tour of Europe and the United States and would record his first two albums "Are you Experienced” and “Axis: Bold of love”. Jimi's first album can be argued as one of the most influential rock albums of all time as it introduces psychedelic rock and new styles of playing the guitar.
Jimi Hendrix was the master of making his guitar “talk”. Sometimes he would turn up his equipment volume so loud that it would make his guitar screech. While doing this, he would play at very fast technical speed, taking blues music and revamping it. He would also play with his teeth and behind his head to surprise the audience (“Why is Hendrix the Guitar Master: Part 1 - Innovative Technique”). No one else during this era even thought about doing something this crazy.

Armstrong was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1901, even though he sometimes said later in his life that he was born on July 4, 1900. He was raised by his mother and grandmother after his father, who was a factory worker, left the family while Armstrong was still a child. His family was very poor, and as a child Armstrong worked many odd jobs to help support the family. Armstrong was surrounded by music while working and playing in the streets of New Orleans. This hypothesis could also be substantiated by the sound dynamic from minute 2:00 to 2:15 where the heavy guitar distortion makes the electric guitar sound bouncy - psychedelic. These fifteen seconds might be an alternative offered by Hendrix to the violence that could have arisen from his cover song. In particular, these sounds could be a reference to the Hippie counterculture that developed as an anti-war movement during the sixties. The Hippie movement advocated peace, love, and, also, pleasure. They expressed their disagreement with politicians and society through their style, the music they listened to, their way of speaking and communicating, and the use of recreational drugs.
