John Proctor And Abigail Williams Argumentative Essay

The third rhetorical device, Abigail Adams uses is logical repetition. Mrs. Adams was a logical woman and used this to drive the point that her son has great things that lie ahead of him. She mentions the word “great” a series of times to lift her son up. For example, she says that he has been endowed with “greater advantages” that he hasn't come to realize yet. Such as his parents, education, and that he has been taught that everything isn't about him becoming who he wants to be. He must become a diplomat and work for others. She also references that “great characters are formed” whilst doing something difficult. This includes Cicero which she gives as a direct example, and recites the events of Cicero, Cataline, Verres, and Mark Anthony.

All throughout the play John Proctor was a versatile character. From the beginning of the play was portrayed tormented for the affair he had with Abigail Williams which he believes his affair with Abigail damaged him in the eyes of god and everyone else in the town. For seven months john was cheating on his wife after while he felt the remorse and came to realize that the affair caused the accusations. Abigail being the leader of the group girls

In Miller play “The Crucible, “ many characters are obligated to decide whether they should confess to witch craft and ruin their name or to be hanged for dealing with something that doesn’t exists. Our main character which is John Proctor was admitted to doing witch craft and chose to keep his name instead of sacrificing him self over a tarnished name

Goodness and nobility is determined by an individual’s morality and their willingness to follow a virtuous path in their life. It is also determined by the ability of an individual to acknowledge their shortcomings and become more self-aware. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor is a good man as he showcases righteous morals and principles. This is shown, as he ends his affair with Abigail, protects his wife and his friends’ wives, and dies to preserve his integrity and honour.

In the Crucible, many of the characters go through changes because of the intensity of the situation. But there is only one character that I think changed the most, and that is John Proctor who is the protagonist of the novel The Crucible by Arthur Miller. I think that John Procotor changes the most in the Crucible because he is in every act and mostly in every scene, and throughtout  the play I see more drama (Dynamic Character) in him than any other character in the Crucible and I will go through and tell you how John Proctor changes in the Crucible.

In The Crucible, the protagonist John Proctor was. In the town of Salem, in 1692, a group of young ladies by the names of Betty Williams, Abigail Williams and Tituba were found dancing in the forest naked by Reverend Parris, Abigail’s’ uncle. Reverend Parris assumed that they were participating in witchcraft. This idea of witchcraft spread through the city of Salem and the citizens began accusing each other of being witches. This started a series of court cases known as the Salem Witch Trials. Abigail Williams accused John Proctor of participating in witchcraft. Seven months earlier Proctor had an affair with Abigail who worked as his maid. When John’s wife Elizabeth Proctor found out, she fired Abigail immediately. This left Elizabeth feeling doubtful of John.

What others think about you is all people seem to care about. So when your reputation is good and is on the line, you will do almost anything to protect that. Reputation is the main value that the characters in The Crucible are trying to protect.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller has many lessons to learn from. One of The major lesson I thought that is important is honesty. The accusations throughout the story were built on lies from those trying to protect their own name, and putting the town into confusion. Nobody in Salem, Massachusetts felt like they could trust anymore, after all of the false allegations made. If Three characters in the story would have been honest from the beginning, the town would not have been in such confusion. If Abigail, John, and Elizabeth would have been honest to begin with then many innocent people would not have lost their lives and left the town in despair.

In “Letters between John and Abigail Adams”, by John and Abigail Adams, Abigail begins by addressing to her husband her concerns regarding women being underestimated. She tells John, “Why then, not put it out of the power of the vicious and the Lawless to use us with cruelty and indignity with impunity” (Abigail 12). In this quote, it is a continuation of her many concerns for John to understand women are more capable of doing things than what the men have in mind. She feels that the women deserve to be equal to the men and they deserve more rights than what they had then. Abigail then begins to tell John, “Men of Sense in all Ages abhor those customs which treat us only as the vassals of your Sex” (12). She wants men to realize that a woman’s sole purpose is not limited to only

John committed the sin of adultery with Abigail. He seems truly sorry for his error with Abigail. Elizabeth does not forgive him and does not trust him any longer. In my opinion someone in Elizabeth 's position can sometimes truly trust a spouse that cheats. If the person in Elizabeth´s position can tell that the other position is truly sincere and sorry then I think that the person deserves a second chance, but if the person is not sincere, and continues to do it. The mistake that John had made has had a big impact on his and Elizabeth 's marriage. Elizabeth doesn 't love John anymore nor does she trust him. Although Elizabeth feels this way, John is trying to save his marriage with her and help her forget the

Reputation is the beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something. Reputation can directly correlate with pride, which is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one 's own achievements. Reputations are very important to the characters in The Crucible and if they want to preserve their reputation, through pride, they do whatever is necessary to keep it. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the characters John Proctor, Abigail Williams, and Judge Danforth all show dramatic actions to preserve their reputations, each of these characters either hurt themselves or others by being prideful and dishonest for the sake of their good name.

When analyzing John Proctor, the first thing that stands out is that he had an affair with a 17 year-old Abigail Williams. Proctor has a wife who loves him and three children but still decides to stray from his family and fancies someone else. John has everything that a person could ever wish for: a job, loving family and friends, but he still abandons it all. When John confesses to his wife about the affair, she fires Abigail. In The Crucible, a drama by Arthur Miller, John Proctor demonstrates courage by speaking out for what he believes in while knowing his consequences, admitting his wrong doings with Abigail to save Elizabeth’s life, and choosing to be hanged over having his name posted on the church door because the second his signed confession is posted, his and his loved ones reputations will be ruined.

(Q) How could the leaders of the Puritans look at this case and think that their religion or their lifestyle is healthy for the people? Winthrop 's ideology is basically telling the people that no matter what good deeds you do it 'll never be good enough for God. On the other hand this guilt is basically what built America. Why else would the Puritans be working so hard to make a functional city (besides the Queen 's authority and the promise of freedom of religion) they thought that they were the "chosen ones" by God and that the city upon a hill was the promise land. But was it worth all the constant fear and anxiety that they would be burning in a pit of flames? And what would America be like without this guilt?

Characters are faced with struggles all the time in books. What makes a character great is how they deal or react to these situations. In the Crucible John is faced with many life changing events and he has to decide what kind of man he wants to be. In the Great Gatsby Daisy is faced with a lot of different situations where she has to decide to do what’s right for herself or what’s really right.
