Gardeners use dried peat moss usually as a soil conditioner or as an ingredient in potting the soil. It is slightly acidic with a pH Level of 4.0, thus, acid loving plants benefit greatly from it, such as blueberries and camellias. Dried peat moss (Sphagnum) is the partially decomposed remains of plants, most commonly sphagnum moss. It forms over many millennia in bogs, marshes, and swamps also known as peat lands or peat bogs and it often gains less than a millimeter in depth every year. However, unlike compost, peat moss forms in the absence of air. Thus, this slows the decomposition

First is its absorbency to store water better than other soils, thus increases the absorbency of any potting mixes and garden soils that use peat moss. Second, not only is peat moss absorbent, it also does not compact, unlike other organic materials. Soil compaction is damaging to gardens and reduces water absorption and plant growth. Peat moss remains springy when it is wet and rehydrates easily, plus one application of peat moss can last for years. Lastly, the pH Level of peat moss is slightly acidic. Acid loving plants like tomatoes benefit greatly from peat moss, however plants that require neutral or basic pHs may not benefit from too much peat moss in the soil without additional, more alkaline amendments. However, there are some defects and disadvantages. The first defect is that not all kinds of plants can benefit from this organic fertilizer specially the plants that prefer alkaline soils. Using this as an organic fertilizer to non-acid loving plants could just stress or kill the plants. The second defect is fertility. Peat moss has a low nutrient content profile and does not contain beneficial microorganisms, which means that it will not act as a fertilizer in your garden. However, beneficial microorganisms can live in peat moss …show more content…
The researcher’s Mom loves to plant but unfortunately the plants don’t love her back. Thus, the researcher taught of a way to save and to make the plants healthy and that’s by creating a soil conditioner and dried peat moss was the one who caught the researcher’s attention. The researcher searched for a lot of eco-friendly materials to be used as a soil conditioner. Even though there are a lot of choices to choose from, she still chose to use dried peat moss. Besides wanting the researcher’s Mom’s garden to be beautiful and lively, she also wants to prove that dried peat moss can be used as a soil conditioner with only adding one material or ingredient which is lime since according to most of the sites, dried peat moss is used as a soil conditioner or a soil amendment by mixing it with other conditioners to form a pot mix or soil mix. We need to study dried peat moss further to know if it is really worth the shot to be used in gardens since there are still a lot of people doubting dried peat moss’s ability as a soil
An unknown author once said, “All the hard work, all the sacrifices, all the sleepless nights, struggles, downfalls, it all pays off.” When the author said this quote, they meant that if you have a goal in life and you are trying to catch your dream. Your hardwork will pay off if you work for it. Never give up even if you are struggling it will pay off. In the book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, he shows that Billy is very hardworking.
Where The Red Fern Grows: Novel vs Movie Essay Author, Wilson Rawls, wrote one of the most touching stories about a boy & his dogs in 1961 called “Where the Red Fern Grows”. Thirteen years after Wilson published his book, a movie based on the book was filmed. The story revolves around a twelve-year-old boy named Billy Colman who works and saves money over a few years in order to buy two Redbone Coon hounds. Within the time Billy spends with his dogs, he experiences both memorable and scary moments. He spent most of his time hunting with his hounds, until one day, he entered a coon hunting championship.

In the book Stiff, by Mary Roach, she shares her experiences in learning about the different disposal of bodies. The book explains that beyond a natural burial and cremation, bodies can also be disintegrated into the Earth or even turned into a tree. Although there are many alternative methods for the disposal of a body, cremation has less environmental concerns, is quicker, and is not as much money compared to most methods; therefore cremation is the most reasonable disposal of a body. Stiff explores different ways to dispose bodies such as tissue digestion, but compared to cremation, it seems to be more environmentally concerning.
The teacher asks students what they already know about the topic “pollution” and they will individually complete the “known” column. Then the teacher asks: “What do you want to learn from
Something I learned about in Herbology 301 is healing. Healing is an important part of our life, which is why i wanted to write about it. Healing spells are needed in everyday life, and if we were to ask someone how many healing spells they 've used in their lifetime, the number would probably be too high to remember. I also learned that mental illnesses are not one-spell-cure-all diseases, which is very helpful to know.
They tested to see the effects of different concentrations of NH3 and NH4. They tested the growth of duckweed under different concentrations of ammonium (NH4) and ammonia (NH3). They also tested different pH levels of the ammonia and ammonium that they used. They tested these experiments on Spirodela polyrrhiza. The effect of the ammonia and ammonium was determined by the pH levels, as the pH level lent towards a stronger acid, the duckweed experienced less growth.

Hawaii is considered to be paradise to many people. However, it is the complete opposite of the native species living here. Hawaii is “The Endangered Capital of the World.” In the United States, Hawaii makes up only 0.2% of the landmass, but has 40% of the United States endangered plants, according to Alessandra Potenza’s article, “The scientists saving Hawaii’s rarest plants need to be saved.”
Introduction: In this task I will be researching the effect that acid rain has on the rate of plant growth. Acid rain is any type of precipitation with a high pH, with high levels of nitric acids. The reason why I had chosen this topic was because acid rain seems to have a great effect on the effect of plant growth, and plants play a very important role in our ecosystem. Acid rain is a major problem in our environment when we are not able to neutralize the acidity.
Fertilizers remove the nutrients of the soil damaging the soil and the local environment and after being mixed with the soil, gradually reduce the fertility of the soil. In the study of (Southland) using fertilizers consists of substances and chemicals like methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and nitrogen, the emission of which has contributed to a great extent in the quantity of greenhouse gases present in the environment. These facts are alarming and a serious step needs to be taken as soon as possible to avoid more severe consequences. This in turn is leading to global warming and weather changes. The use of fertilizers for growth and cultivation is keeping our stomach filled for now, but then if things keep on progressing the way they are, it won’t take long to see the times where there is lack of food, water, and health.
