I have lived in Pensacola, Florida for my whole life. I have lived in the same house since I was six years old, and before that I lived in an apartment by my elementary school. I went to Jim Allen Elementary School where I spent kindergarten through fifth grade. I had to be homeschooled for half of my first-grade year, and half of my second-grade year because I was going through cancer treatments as a young girl. I then went to Ransom Middle School for sixth and eighth-grade because I had to be homeschooled again in seventh grade due to having a major surgery.
I began college in 2014 at the age of 58 years-old to change my area of employment and do something that is far more interesting to me, working within the social services field. I realize the fact I was brought up by two dysfunctional, abusive parents in a chaotic home lead me to search out that same type of familiar relationship when I left home at the age of seventeen. In short, I married a domestic violence abuser and alcoholic when I was 19 years-old and had 5 children. Ten years into the marriage, when I had finally reached the end of my rope, a local police officer helped me to obtain a Protection from Abuse order and removed my husband from the home. Providing a place of reassurance, nurture, and safety foster care has a substantial impact on the outcome of children in their future. Throughout this system these kids circulate around multiple social, political, and economical effects during their time in a foster care system, and unfortunately after the age of 18 where they are faced to survive the world alone.
Well...I was 6 when Child Protective Services came to get us. I lived with my mom and my three sisters, the youngest was Donna she was 5 & Lizzy was 7 and Mary was 10. I remember most of my family lived in the same neighborhood like my two Aunts and my uncle and grandpa and grandma. There was an occasional gunshot, sometimes there was a fire truck rushing down our street . We lived on top of a hill at 1015 Norwich in Grand Rapids.

A couple of weeks before I turned eight my little brother was born. They have impacted my life way more than they realize. Being an older sister has shaped me into the person I am today in school and class, because I’ve learned how to cope with different things, learned that people like to do things their own way and I have learned how to set a good example. I would say I began to be who I wanted to be during a relationship with a girl named Maggie. That year was the most immense change I’ve ever seen in a person. I credit a lot of finding who I wanted to be because of her and I wish I would’ve told her that. Just being with her and learning about someone so closely and how to handle another person especially of the opposite gender and especially with how spontaneous of a person she was helped me develop a calm disposition and really brought out a more fun and happy person in me that continues on growing to this day. It wasn’t all her however, I have amazing friends and an immensely wonderful and forgiving family that I could fall upon in my times of need and trouble.
