ABSTRACT Malaysia one of country facing with labour issue in plantation sector. The number of local involve in plantation become reduce. A plantation sector more depends to foreign to fulfil demand labour at oil palm plantation. This paper discuss the determinants of labour shortage in oil palm plantation. The objectives this study to determinants labour shortage local people in plantation sector. Another purpose is to find factors contributes repulsion local people at plantation sector. a survey through questionnaires was used to collect data from local people which selected using random sampling method. The study be measure by dependent and independent variable, with dependent variable is labour shortage. The factor contain in independent variable is environment at working place, benefit local can get working in plantation, geographic factor and perception local toward worker oil palm plantation. The factor give high impact for labour shortage is low rate wages for general worker, the salary cannot cover cost living today. Plantation sector also need compete with other industry that cause their more offer better salaries. In same times attracts young generation work in industry not plantation. Some of company more prefer hires foreign worker compare local this because local have bad attitudes and less productivity. This can result in improved health outcomes of an individual. The condition of lower-status work tends to be poorer than higher status work. A flexible workforce is seen as good for economic competitiveness but brings with it effects on health (Benach & Muntaner, 2007).
