Use of force incidents between law enforcement and minority communities has been a serious issue nationwide. Social media has portrayed police officers as enemies and has caused riots in several states. Police officers have a duty to protect and serve the citizens of Houston with utmost and respect and professionalism; however, there are incidents where our officers have resorted to deadly force to protect their lives and the lives of bystanders around them. The recent killing of an unarmed African-American has sparked tremendous anger in our local black community, and also caught the attention of social media nationwide. Information from our Criminal Intelligence Division indicate that there has not been any talks of possible violent riots
One way to stop the crime is to talk to the police or someone who will listen to anything that is been said. Another reason why you can stop crime from happening is to talk to the kids at the school, and in your community about why is crime is a topic that hinders people to succeed. As far as adults are concerned, they should be more mindful and more responsible of their action. Adults should also be aware of why crime is prevalent, and why crime is
The state gives a person a gun and a badge, it instantly gives them a free pass to do as they please and the right to kill whom they deem a threat to public safety. Police officers are the citizens who take the oath to “serve and protect”, but quite ironically they pose a greater threat to society because of the fact that they are everywhere and they just seem to be able to get away with everything they do to a certain extent. Where is that line drawn? Who makes the decision if they crossed the line? Police should not have the mentality that they are immune to the court of law due to the fact mere fact that they are officers of the law.
The Plague of the United States era, society is insistently assured by police and their apologist, is not the extensive abuse and other frequent misconduct by law enforcements officers, but the expanding “disrespect for authority” that is being encouraged by “liberals” and those more extensive individuals called “libertarians” The widespread media coverage of police brutality has become too common within our societies everyday life, thus causing destruction of the communities trust. Savage treatment is continually afflicted among African Americans as a replacement form of punishment. A substantial number of casualties of police brutality are African Americans, for instance during August 9th within a house of Brooklyn, an African American
Recently, there have been many cases involving police brutality against African Americans in which some had costed their lives. Some actions taken by these officers are questionable to be justified or not. In July 2014, Marlene Pinnock, a 51 year old woman at that time, was arrested by a California Highway Patrol officer for walking next to a freeway. The officer straddles her to the ground and repeatedly struck Pinnock 's head with his fists (Williams 106).
This is not a regular day for jharel. He is going downtown to protest on black lives matter. He believes all lives matter but african american lives are being targeted the most.He feels like they don 't care about african american lives and were taken for granted. This is something that have been going on for a while now.We believe black lives matter and something should be done for all the people we lives have been taken away. One reason african american are protesting on black lives matter is because they feel we are not getting treated equally. "I couldn 't even go to the county public library and check a book out,"(Kellaher 1) We can 't even sometimes do the same stuff white people do without getting told we 're doing it wrong. An african american can walk in the store and buy something and still be accused of stealing. On the other hand white people can walk in the store and buy something and not be accused of stealing. We believe all lives matter but african american lives are being targeted the most. Some people say racism is coming back. That 's one of the main reason why african americans and many others are protesting on black lives
Police violence on African American males in the U.S. has only seemed to have increased in the past years in this country and researchers wanted to see the type of impact it has had in these African American communities. The study mainly focused on the beating of Frank Jude in the Milwaukee area but also analyzed the impact of three other beatings and how phone calls to 911 were affected. If calls to 911 are suppressed because of these shootings in these communities then it is putting the entire public in danger. Throughout this paper I will being going over many different subjects such as how the experiment was set up, the effects on phone calls after the Frank Jude beating, and also the effect on phone calls in the other three cases as
As African Americans we have a target on our backs one rooted in hate. However, it is our job to continue fighting for our right and our place in the world to be known. Many white officers do not receive any type of sentencing in court especially in cases that include the lost lives of one of our own. They live in fear of the threat that we pose especially when during slavery times we talked in letters or through songs rather than disobeying master. Additionally, this behavior is what we have tried to overcome, but we are constantly being judged because of the color of our skin.
Police officers were once known as peace keepers, however, now they are the ones to avoid. They’re more worried about quotas, and are using their power to arrest innocent people that quickly escalates to police brutality. Our constitutional rights are being violated and that’s the biggest issue in America now. Police are supposed to protect and serve the people, however their power is being abused and it’s causing riots.
