1.0 Introduction
This research sought to analyze the farm level profitability and efficiency among smallholder poultry farmers in Kampala Central Division. This chapter presents information related to this topic in the following sections: background to the study, problem statement, study objectives, research hypotheses, scope, significance, justification, definition of key terms and conceptual framework.
1.1 Background to the Study
Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s economy involving 2.5 million farm families, accounting for approximately 31 percent of the country’s GDP and over 90 per cent of exports. Livestock production is an integral part of agricultural production in Uganda. Compared to crop production, livestock constitutes a relatively small component of Uganda’s agriculture contributing 4% to the agricultural GDP and just 12 % of the total value of agricultural production (Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development website). The livestock sector is typically a low-input-low-output management system with over half a million smallholder families (MFPED, 2000). The livestock sub sector contributes 7.5% of GDP and 17% of agricultural GDP. There is growing interest in commercial chicken production by investors in recognition of the good potential returns on investment accruing in commercial chicken production. With the coming in of large-scale investors, it is expected that the cost of production of chicken will eventually reduce owing to economies of scale thus reducing the price within means of an average income

The opportunity cost of increasing corn by 200 pounds (=1000-800) is the amount of poultry output that must be sacrificed. We look at two points on PPC-(800,500) and (1000, 300). Of this proportion, that is 16%. That is not including the milk, eggs, fruit, and other baking products that make up a great portion of agricultural goods. Not to mention, there is over 100 ways to cook an egg. Agriculture brings up a large portion of America’s subsistences. Even the everyday junk-food, such as chips have agricultural goods included in the manufacturing process.
The documentary was informative about information that is discussed globally, but is not explained in full detail about the negative aspects that non-political people actually see. For example, the “war on drugs,” was originally started by President Nixon. The rumored main objective was to throw black people away and antiwar left. I believe that white people were fearful of black people after the 13th amendment was passed, which formally ended slavery in 1865. From 1865 till now, some people still express that fear because black people have all the freedoms and rights that everyone else has.
Consumers began looking for processed meat products which were more convenient to prepare in a lesser amount of time and hence began looking at other products other than the ones being offered by Oscar Mayer. Weaknesses of the Competition:- Oscar Mayer had an already established market share and hence enjoyed the loyalty of their customers which posed as a problem for the new entrants into this maket. Since Oscar Mayer had been in the business for over a long period of time, their manufacturing techniques and facilities were more sophisticated than that of its competitors. Oscar Mayer, being already well established, would definitely enjoy a better financial position that that of its competitors who would have recently joined the meat business.

Many times, the interactions between organisms and habitats are based on the energy needs of the organisms. In this experiment, a null hypothesis that the Black-capped Chickadee forages on various trees at random. Upon data analysis of the gathered information, it can be determined that the Black-capped chickadee were not choosing foraging sites at random. The results of a chi square test gave a value of 19,890 which is significantly larger than the 16.812 value needed to void the null hypothesis with six degrees of freedom; the probability that this variation was due to chance is less than .01.
However it doesn’t have a large impact on the food industry as such as consumers need to purchase food in order to survive. Although they may decrease quantity of foods they choose to buy, they are still willing to purchase basic foods that will sustain their health. Consumers are more likely during an economic downfall to spend their money on foods they require rather than want. The company as a result obtains an advantage from its competitors as they produce long lasting food options, which allows consumer’s to save during tough times. This highlights an opportunity for the company as they produce healthier and simple food varieties which many customers desire.
The food industry has better improvements yet; it still needs a thorough cleansing. Although food production has bettered in the last 100 years by its treatment of workers and government’s oversight, it has had some adverse effects like company’s protection
The real meat industry will always be a large threat to the plant-based meat industry due to the fact that they offer all of the same products at only one third of the price. The price disparity between these two offers a big advantage to the real meat industry. If production falls or the economy sees any form of disparity then consumers will just return to buying real meat. Walking on a floor that is caked with so many flies. Seeing the unsanitary location where the food you serve your family is coming from. You have just walked through a factory farm.
