Several people have chosen Ronald Reagan as a great President, my guess is that most of you have gotten your opinions from the media about so many conservatives thinking of Reagan as near to sainthood, I personnaly lived with the current events of his Presidency. There are a few items that tend to get glossed over, such as: he fell asleep while speaking to the Pope, he entertained the Taliban in the White House, Reagan raised taxes on the middle class eleven times while tripling the deficit, Reagan secretly and unconstitutionally sold weapons to Iran to fund an illeagal war in Nicaragua, Reagan gave ammesty to 3 million illegal immagrants, Reagan took money from the Social Security Trust fund and replaced it with IOU’s, Reagan ignored AIDS
President Harding had a mix of amazing and corrupt cabinet members. One of the corrupt cabinet members was Albert B. Fall. He was secretary of interior and convinced President Warren Harding that he should control of the Elk Hills, California and Teapot Dome, Wyoming Oil Reserves. These reserves were under government control and were meant for the Navy. However, Edward Doheny of Pan-American Petroleum and Transport Company and Harry Sinclair of Sinclair Corporation bribed Secretary Falls.

Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both progressive presidents, but their approaches to regulating and controlling big business in the United States differed. President Roosevelt felt that big business were not truly villainous, for they were part of the 20th century playing a big part in the everyday American life. He felt that the commander in chief should be over the legislative action towards the reform. He asserted that the government should regulate the big businesses and trust to ensure that they did not misuse their power.
Alexander Hamilton wrote the Federalist Papers which was a persuasive document appealing to the formation of a strong national government. In Federalist #78, Hamilton described his plan for a judicial system set up by the Federal Government that would interpret laws and hold them to the standard of the Constitution. In his essay, he remarked the judicial branch as the weakest of the branches. His reasoning behind this claim was that the judiciary posed the least threatening to individuals rights found in the Constitution. The judges themselves only held the power to interpret laws and strike them down during the legislative process.

There can be many different ways someone can take stand: a stand for their country, a stand for themselves, a stand for others, a stand for freedom. After America declared its independence from Great Britain, the new nation went through various transitions in the quest to establish a new government. In addition, after many changes and attempts to do this, the United States Constitution was finally ratified leading to the commence of the American experiment. Furthermore, during this time period many events were occurring which had a significant impact on the U.S and which would leave an everlasting legacy behind. For instance, during these events the President had a great role in the growth of the nation. Therefore, it was during these events that the President had to act in and make choices for the best interest of the new nation.

President Woodrow Wilson was a progressive and the domestic policies that he helped put into place, can be felt today. He transformed the Democratic party into a “reform party”. Under his presidency, he gave support for the women’s suffrage amendment, and in the end, was the cause of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. It can be argued that he laid the groundwork for the New Deal that President Roosevelt enacted. He was responsible for the beginning of this nations federal oversight, which the Federal Reserve and Federal Trade Commission were two organizations that became the direct result.
In Wilson’s address, he used the rhetoric of patriotism to advocate remaining out of the war. He stated, “My thought is of America…this great country of ours, which is, of course, the first in our thoughts and hearts.” Wilson believed that Americans should not meddle in European affairs, especially since they did not impact Americans.
Socially, his main goals was to remain at peace with all the other countries just as William G. Harding did. This way,
President Woodrow Wilson was the last of the Progressive Presidents and as such caused great economic, political and social change. He served between 1913 and 1921 during which he imposed economic change through reforms, both national and international political change and a change in the role of women, giving them the right to vote. The effects of Wilsons presidency created abundant change within American society that had long lasting impacts. Political change was imminent in Wilsons second term as he was given emergency presidential power to, in some cases, bypass Congress, to speed up the law-making process. For example, he imposed the Selective Services Act in 1917 which authorised conscription in the US so that the military could be built up quickly and would not have to rely wholly on volunteers; according to Khan Academy this was well received by the American public as they were incredibly patriotic and believed it was their responsibility to support their nation, as such few men dodged.

Many critics question his success in his presidency, while others glorify this battle torn American hero. His presidency was spontaneous. He did not know he was going to become the president, but fate worked its grasp around Roosevelt’s future, turning him from a new Vice President into the youngest appointed President in history.
