Did you know some people hunt humans for pure enjoyment? This is true in the story “The Most Dangerous Game”. Richard Connell writes a story in the time of 1924 that consists directly from the idea of hunters hunting humans. This starts when a big game hunter named Rainsford finds himself stranded on a unknown island by accident and runs into a chateau where he meets a suspicious man named Zaroff, from there Rainsford finds out Zaroff hunts humans who come to the island by trapping them with a lure. Rainsford then plays the game of hunt with Zaroff.
‘My dear fellow,’ said the general, ‘there is one that can’" (Connell 12). This quote explains the main conflict in “The Most Dangerous Game”, that Zaroff enjoys hunting men. He found hunting animals to be too easy, stating that there was “no greater bore than perfection.” In the movie, the main conflict is that Frank Miller is coming back for revenge on Kane. Kane scours the town for deputies, however he gets no help. Harvey, a deputy, quits in fear of Miller, leaving Kane to deal with Miller alone.
4th period “You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you” (Unknown). In the lord of flies by William Golding, Jack turns evil and is not himself. A former choirmaster and “head boy” at his school, he arrived on the island having experienced some success in exerting control over others by dominating the choir with his militaristic attitude. His main interest is hunting, an endeavor that begins with the desire for meat and builds to the overwhelming urge to master and kill other living creatures. One character trait that jack shows throughout the story is selfishness.
In his opinion, “The world is made up of two classes the hunters and the huntees (Connell 216)”. As a result of his wrong opinion, the tables turn in the story and Rainsford becomes the one being hunted. This is both his external conflict and an unexpected turn of events. Eventually, although this was tough for him, Rainsford ends up winning the game. When informed that he had won Rainsford responded: “I am still a beast at bay; he
“The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is an interesting story about avid hunter Sanger Rainsford. He falls off of a yacht and swims to an island called “shiptrap island”. He finds himself being hunted by the crazy General Zaroff. General Zaroff had grown bored of hunting animals since they did not give the general the danger and excitement he craved. His solution was to build a house on a deserted island and bring humans there, so he could hunt them.
During their way they were hunting, in this game one of the boys pretended to be the pig. In fact, Ralph liked the game. When they get to the mountain, Jack, Ralph and Roger the parachutist. It was dark and they run away thinking that the parachute is the beast. In the following day, onto the beach, Jack tells the others boys to take Ralph out as a chief, but none of them do
Throughout generations, people have been hunting for food and population control, but in “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford thinks that hunting is a sport until he becomes the hunted. In the story, Rainsford met General Zaroff on the island; Rainsford thought he was a nice guy until he started hunting humans. Rainsford didn’t agree with him and refused to hunt, and he wanted to leave immediately, but Zaroff was started to hunt him. Rainsford uses his skills and knowledge to survive against General Zaroff. In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell suggests to, trust yourself or you won’t succeed.
For instance, the story shows man versus nature conflicts because when the men are being hunted by the General they have to avoid the quicksand that was in the swamp. If they were to fall in the quicksand their chances of getting out slim and nature would have defeated them not the General. This shows that one way man versus nature is included in the story is that they have to overcome quicksand. Also another man versus nature that was shown in the story was that they had to escape from animals. General Zaroff has dogs that assist him in finding his prey of the game.
When Rainsford asks if Zaroff hunts cape buffalo, Zaroff states “ ‘[No,] I hunt more dangerous game’ (17)”. This foreshadows him revealing that he hunts men. This builds suspense because the reader doesn’t know yet what this “dangerous game” is, but they know it probably isn’t good. The author utilizes
In “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford has the odds completely stacked against him. The general believes he has killed Rainsford, and returns to his home at night. To the general’s surprise, Rainsford is in his room, waiting for him. Although he knew he had won the game, “Rainsford did not smile. ‘I am still a beast at bay,’ he said, in a low, hoarse voice.
Rainsford reactions to his first day on Ship-Trap Island are that Rainsford might be thinking he wished not to fell off the boat in the first place. Another example that is going through Rainsford mind is that when he met General Zaroff, Rainsford thought he was pretty chill and cool. The stuff that is going through mind because Zaroff told him that there is another big game to hunt and the big game is hunting humans. Rainsford is thinking about Zaroff, thinking that he is an insane man or person for what he does. That is the reasons why Rainsford can’t sleep or quiet his brain.
“The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, is a narrative about Mr. Sanger Rainsford, a celebrated hunter, who finds himself on a secluded island after falling overboard a yacht. Rainsford locates a large building on the island and meets General Zaroff, who invites him to rest and replenish his health in his home. After Zaroff explains that he also enjoys hunting, he also reveals that he has discovered a new, more dangerous animal to hunt: humans. Zaroff forces Rainsford to become the hunted in order to win his freedom and return to the mainland. Connell’s central idea suggests that instinct does not always yield to reason.
There on "ship-trap island" he find general Zaroff who hunts humans. When Rainsford refuses to hunt with Zaroff, Rainsford has to be hunted. The Great Hunt Hunting good because it keeps control of the animal population. However in the story Zaroff uses hunting in a bad way. Rainsford was on a boat and then fell off the boat. Then he looked around the island for people on the island so he could get food and water but then he got caught up with in a hunting game then survived the hunting game. General Zaroff was one of the best hunters In the world and Rainsford survived all three days so that proves that Rainsford is better then General Zaroff.Richard Connell uses mood/tone in his story “The Most Dangerous Game” to convey the theme of competition rarely enhances a person’ character. “How can such civilized people turn into uncivilized people when live depends on it?” This was the question that was circling my mind while reading, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. “Outdoor chess! And the stake is not without value,” I choose this quote because, he saying that this gruesome game is equivalent to a low key game meant for all ages. After the General finished explaining the so called game, Rainsford filled with fear stepped out of the house. Sprinting through the forest, the constant terror of being kill sent a shiver down his spine.
