The death of Meriwether Lewis still remains a great mystery. For 200 years, it was claimed to be a suicide, but many other sources of evidence proves this wrong. He was secretary for Thomas Jefferson. He was also the number one hero in the country. He was even named the governor of Louisiana! Lewis had a successful expedition and came across new discoveries. Before he died, he was on his way to Washington for financial problems. He was being denied money. Lewis stopped at Grinder Stand and that’s when everything went down. Meriwether Lewis was murdered by conspiracy. Meriwether Lewis was murdered by conspiracy. He was murdered by conspiracy because of where he was shot at (wounds) and what he was shot with. Lewis was shot with a “Horse Pistol”, a gun used to shoot Horses. According to the Ballistics Test, Lewis had a wound on the back of his head and on his chest. Those wounds didn’t have any exiting wounds. If he had shot himself (suicide) with this, he would’ve most likely died when the first shot hit him. There is Robert Grinder, James Neely, and James Wilkinson. According to “Exhibit D”, Grinder was the one that shot Lewis in the stomach and the back of his head. Grinder left with a great deal of money. Although the judge was saying that there wasn’t enough proof, the district attorney referred to money a lot while the victim was left with none. James Neely is another possible suspect because of his letter. It wasn’t believable because he said that Lewis survived the two shots for some time but they were both lethal. Lastly, James Wilkinson is a suspect because he didn’t get along with Lewis. Thomas Jefferson chose Lewis over Wilkinson and he emphasized robbery a lot.
