Shared knowledge is the common knowledge, which is shared and accepted by a majority of the people in a society. Also, shared knowledge is usually passed on to future generations by written works. On the other hand, personal knowledge is usually kept in privacy and not easily shared, which makes it hard to be recorded in written works. Personal knowledge is believed to be significantly influenced by personal experience. People use the form ‘we know’ to indicate such knowledge is shared and use the form ‘I know’ to indicate such knowledge is personal. Despite such differences between shared knowledge and personal knowledge, there certainly is an interrelationship between them. Shared knowledge can have an influence on personal knowledge and the reverse of it is also possible. Since the direction of influence works in either way, a possible knowledge question of ‘To what extend does shared knowledge shape personal knowledge?’ can be arisen. Ludwig van Beethoven, who is also a famous composer from the Classical Period, counters the statement. At first, his personal knowledge, his musical pieces, was also strongly influenced by the shared knowledge, sonata form, and many of them had identical structures. However, Beethoven as he started to write more and more sonatas, he began to alter the sonata forms in his own way. Beethoven’s alteration developed into a more popular form and it eventually triggered the arousal of a new era; Romantic Period.
