Some people fight for honor, and some fight for revenge, or to avenge their friends or loved ones. Some fight with words and wisdom, while others choses to use physical force, even by taking the opponent’s life to fulfill their vengeance. In Romeo and Juliet, the motif haste controls all the events in the story. Haste also drives the characters to make mistakes because they aren’t thinking through the outcome of their decisions. When Romeo and Juliet first meet at the party they hastily started making plans to get married. In the next few days, they got married. At their secret wedding, Friar Lawrence foreshadows Romeo and Juliet's future by stating that “These violent delights have violent ends.
Romeo does nothing to fight back so Mercutio steps up and fight Tybalt but loses his life in doing so. After Mercutio dies Romeo is full of anger and craves vengeance, he immediately chases after Tybalt and kills him. Romeo starts off not wanting to fight but after the death of Mercutio he is conflicted with so many different emotions and he only listens to one, anger. Mercutio lost his life defending Romeo who refused to fight Tybalt, but his death made Romeo do the exact thing he lost his life for.
Juliet Capulet is one of the two main protagonist of Romeo and Juliet alongside Romeo Montague. Many people see as Juliet a young girl with good intentions. Character Defense: Romeo We perceive that Romeo is innocent due to his apparent love for Tybalt and his clear disesteem to the brawl unfolding. He wanted to advent the violence thrust upon him by his love (Tybalt). He cared too much to fight him but when a good life-long friend, Mercutio, is murdered in front of his very eyes he is shaken to the core. He did this while not in the correct state of mind, cleary in a haze of sorrow and guilt not yet fully comprehending the effects of his actions. His gentle altercation with Tybalt defines his love for his friends and family.

Tybalt Juliet's cousin from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is all and more of these words used to describe him. And Tybalt is a hateful, bold, and demanding character that love nothing more than to see Romeo killed. Tybalt is an insanely hateful character especially towards Romeo and his household.
Mercutio says that dreams mean nothing, and pressures him into going to the party anyways. Romeo agrees, and begins the chain of events that lead to his and Juliet’s deaths. He shows how reluctant he is to go by stating,
Tybalt challenges Romeo to a duel and he declines the challenge and insists that he won’t fight Tybalt. Mercutio is angered by Romeo’s “cowardice” and takes on Tybalt himself. Romeo wants Mercutio to stop fighting Tybalt so he decides that it’d be a good idea to block his arm in mid combat and Tybalt stabs Mercutio from under Romeo’s arm and Mercutio falls dead after rambling about plagues and a pun or two. Romeo doesn’t realize that it is his own fault that Mercutio died after Mercutio even blamed his wound on him. Romeo lets his emotions decide his actions and becomes enraged and ignores that Tybalt is now his family and fails to see that he was the reason Mercutio was killed.
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”- Samuel Johnson. This quote symbolizes that good intentions can have horrible consequences. There is an equal and opposite reaction to every decision made in Romeo and Juliet. The thesis statement that will be used is that no matter if the decision is good their is always a disastrous outcome that results. Life is never what it seems actions made by good people have a way of turning awful.
