Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is one of the major Jewish holidays because it is considered the Jewish New Year. This holiday is a two-day celebration that has a background in the creation of the Earth and also marks the beginning of the agricultural and economical year. Rosh Hashanah takes place the first two days of Tishri, which is the first month of the Jewish calendar which falls around September or October. Biblically, it is explained by Leviticus 23:23-25,
“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel saying: In the seventh month, on the first of the month, it shall be a Sabbath for you, a day of remembrance of [Israel through] the shofar blast, a holy occasion. You shall not perform any work of labor, and you shall offer up a fire offering to the Lord.” …show more content…

The blowing of the shofar, a horn that serves the purpose of causing reflection within the mind of all that hear it, is also a staple for this day. The shofar can be blown many times throughout one Rosh Hashanah service, even as many as one hundred times. The shofar is not limited to only being played on Rosh Hashanah, but is generally reserved for this day. As seen in the passage from Leviticus 23:23-25, it is also a Sabbath day which means that it is inappropriate to do any work on this day.
