Geras Artis Senior Project Research Paper The Renaissance Era dominated the 14th through 17th century Italy. A new movement called humanism characterized this era and was evidenced in art, music, and literature. Humanism is the emergence of the individualism of man, as well as his dignity and juxtaposition with God. It explored the divine nature of man and his actions. During this time period, artists developed specific characteristics in their work, such as realistic proportions and high attention to detail. On of the most influential figures of his time was Leonardo da Vinci, He studied mechanics, anatomy and painting, in all of which he excelled. Specifically, Leonardo da Vinci developed several anatomical studies and figure studies
The Renaissance era was the end of the Middle Ages and was the beginning of the contemporary period. It was a time where cultural movements flourished and the intellectual basis—humanism—arose. Humanism was a movement that believed that the human mind had limitless potential. It gave humans more freedom rather than following dogmas and superstitions. It was the start of the more scientific and logical age, based on evidence rather than beliefs and religion.
Throughout history, art has been very important. The biggest time for art, though, was the Renaissance. Many artists got their start in this era. Some popular artists include Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo Da Vinci. I believe that all of these people were amazing artists, but Leonardo was the most significant artist of his time.
The Renaissance was a period in time where everything started to change after the middle ages. During this historical period humans stared evolving by becoming smarter and inventing useful recourses that have changed the world. The renaissance was a life changing period which brought more joy to the world after conquering the dark ages. The Renaissance changed man’s view on the world by using Art, Science and Literature to make humans brighter and because of the rapid information they were gaining. Art during the Renaissance grew rapidly because of Leonardo Da Vici, and Michelangelo who changed the way people painted and drew by creating strategies which made art more interesting.
Throughout the ages there have been many different styles of artwork, from paintings to architecture. There are quite a few distinct pieces of art from time periods like the Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo. Some pieces of art, including paintings, sculptures and architecture, during these periods also incorporated scientific knowledge from which the time they were in. There are some great contributions to the art world during the Renaissance period, like Galileo at Pisa. There had been a promotion of the study of anatomy and mathematics that made it's way into artistic perspectives.
Succeeding the Middle Ages, the Renaissance was a time period in Europe of cultural and artistic advancements that changed the course of history, leading to the Modern Era. (Source 1) Through the Renaissance, ideas of humanism spread all throughout Europe. Humanism is a system of thought based on human individualism and self-worth that was greatly emphasized during this time period. People were expected to become active in public affairs such as literature, politics, and the arts. (Source 1)
The start of Renaissance during the 14th century was associated with Humanism. Humanism started as a movement which emphasized the importance of human beings; their spirituality, their value as human beings based on philosophy and their standing as an individual and as a group. It was backed up by logical explanations, and also by the fact that knowledge came from experience. It was an achieved realization that acquired knowledge and experience were preferred over established beliefs. From that time when Humanism evolved, it became a common subject for Renaissance art during the 15th and the 16th century.
Leonardo was probed to incorporate his figures and paintings together by painting and drwawing the cartoon of Burlington house which was placed in National gallery in 1498. Later in 2008, a curator found and claimed some blurred sketches and drwaings to have been made by the famous Leonardo da Vinci because there was a skillset of his art and concept residing in that pictures. Leonardo da Vinci drwan Horses before the battle held in Anghiari, which was also a disclosed sketch of second time of size 6 1/2 by 4 inches, which was half of a skull. The third sketch of Leonardo where infant jesus was playing with a lamb in The virgin and the child which was similar to the sketch painted on the above side. The Renaissance was a period of ideological rebirth lasting from the 14th century to the 17th century. Beginning in Florence, Italy, it spread arts, inventions, and creativity all throughout Europe as it began slowly emerging from the Dark Ages. Of course, there had to be a driving force for this movement, and that was an ideological system known as Humanism. Humanism was the belief that a person had full control over who they were, and rejected external control over one’s life. During the Dark Ages, the Roman Catholic Church dictated every aspect of a person’s life, from who they were to what they did.
Leonardo da Vinci’s father and mother were never married to one another. His father was an attorney and notary. His mother was a peasant. Leonardo was the only child they had together. With other partners, Leo’s mother and father, had a total of 17 other children.
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was the illegitimate son of Ser Piero da Vinci, and a local woman, Caterin. There isn’t much on Leonardo's childhood except his father made him the apprentice of Andrea del Verrocchio (1435–1488), the leading artist of Florence at the time. Verrocchio took great lengths in honing quality of execution in expressing the vitality of the human figure. These elements were important for Leonardo's artistic style.
The subject that I chose for my paper was “Art: The work of Leonardo da Vinci on perspective, light, shadows, and color in painting” . I chose this specific subject because I used to be an art major that didn’t really care for art I never really paid attention in my humanities courses so I felt that in a way this would redeem me for my lost chance at knowledge. There is a book in the library called Great Masters : Leonardo da Vinci that I found became the main source of information for this paper. What was the motivation that led to the discovery? There was no “discovery” of Leonardo da Vinci’s amazing work , from a young age his father recognized his potential and sent him to Florence to take on an apprenticeship for sculptor and painter
Leonardo do Vinci report Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest masters of the renaissance. Leonardo is best known for his dramatic and expressive artwork. Although he is mostly famous for his artwork, Leonardo was also an architect, sculptor, inventor, engineer, musician and scientist. Da Vinci was born on the 5th of April, 1452, in Vinci, Tuscany. The name ‘da Vinci’ is Italian for ‘from Vinci’, making his name Leonardo from Vinci.
The Italian Renaissance commenced in in 1350, it became known as the era of rebirth. Europeans society recovered progressively after following the devastation of monetary setbacks of the fourteenth century. Due to industrial and commerce improved? Italy was interpreted as the modern world and restoration of antiquity, of individual secularism and ideas developed among Artists of the Italian Renaissance. Italian Artists of the Renaissance acquired new methods for logical examination of their society surrounding them.
Discussion/Conclusion All of Leonardo da Vinci’s concepts and inventions is a huge significant contribution to mathematics of the way things were first constructed. Therefore, many historians and scholars give many thanks to Leonardo da Vinci. Without his mind and intellect, we would not be where we are now in the field of ingenuity. In 1513 Leonardo da Vinci was at an old age of 60where he had moved from his original home. He then went to Rome where he was accompanied by his students Melzi and Salai as well as his two studio assistants which they were in search to find employment in Rome.
The Renaissance in Europe was a time in which the modern age began, because of humanism that centered on human interest. It was a huge change to switch from a religion based society in the Middle Ages to a people based society in the Renaissance. During the Renaissance, humanism effected political philosophy, art and religious change. Most of the philosophy was severely changed during the Renaissance due to humanism. Niccolo Machiavelli of Florence, Italy was one of the main contributors of change.
