Tiffany has problems of her own ever since her husband died. They both auditioned at a dance competition, however they did not do their very best but was happy anyways. They both gave each other hugs when Pat saw Nancy where he hugged her and talked to her. Tiffany’s reaction to that was filled with anger and surprise and she could not believe of what she saw. She thought Pat was over with Nancy, but was lied to.

The story tells the reader about how two girls, each owns a Barbie doll with their one outfit piece and they made a dress out of worn socks for the dolls. One Sunday, they both went to the flea market on Maxwell Street, where the dolls of the other characters in Barbie were sold with lower price as a big toy warehouse was destroyed by fire. They did not mind to buy the dolls at the flea market even though the dolls were flawed, soaked with water and smelled like ashes. Barbie is widely pictured as a successful girl, who is perfect in every way; with her beautiful face, a slim body, nice house, secured job and a handsome boyfriend which is the fancy of every girl. The story tells the reader of the expectancy for women to have this immaculate figure, ignoring the fact that each person has different body fat percentage and body mass index which may affect their sizes and weights.

The story takes place on a hot, summer day at a grocery store called the “A&P”. The protagonist is a nineteen year old male cashier by the name of Sammy. (115-116). This sedate tone is a clear craft move by the author. She specifically makes Jeannie seem resigned and about to give up. Denials of small, everyday, opportunities like this can have a damaging impact on one’s mental health and can create an inferiority complex. For example, Jeanne starts blaming herself and her race for everything that happens to her.
She struggled with how the society and her family shaped who she was. She was exposed to her family first which made her behave the way she did under her family’s house. Jeanette struggled with her family by taking care of the house, beings told bending the rules is okay and the acceptance of her Mom’s and Dad’s homelessness. When Jeannette left her family and went to live in New York, she becomes an individual. She fends for herself and gets her life together.
While reading the 5 fiction short stories there became a common pattern between 3 stories and the characters in them. These stories are “The Rocking Horse Winner” by D.H. Lawrence, “I Stand Here Ironing” by Tillie Olsen, and “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”. Every character has the mindset to possibly fulfill their goals to better and/or change their lives. “The Rocking Horse Winner” is about a boy named Paul who wants to win his mother’s love and attention. By giving her the life she always wanted.
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is a science fiction love story published by MacAdam/Cage in 2003. This book is about a time traveler’s relationship with a woman throughout his life. The author’s purpose was to write a metaphor of her failed relationship in love. The book tells love romance and misunderstanding between a time traveler and a normal woman.
The narrator is no longer able to determine the difference from reality from her illusions. Such as seeing the woman in the wallpaper move, which means that the narrator is the touch with reality and wishes to do what she wants. In addition, she also sees the woman not only in the wallpaper, but imagines that the room she is staying in used is meant to be something but in reality, it was a room to keep her. Moreover, the narrator cannot express herself because society will not allow it and is dominated by her role as a woman. People have beliefs that short stories that are deemed reliable.
