Political ads are a way to persuade you to vote for one political party or the other. Every 4 years, there is an election between democrats and republicans that will help decide the next president of the United States. These campaigns between the democrats and the republicans are the strategies candidates use to win your vote. During the election season, there is many speeches made by both the people who are running for president. Debates between the two sides can sway your vote to one side or the other depending on what the candidates say.
Many people choose not to vote in an election due to the fact that their vote is not effective in influencing the outcome of an election. This system of voting within the electoral college also generally favours large states over small states, meaning that they also do not have much influence in an election turnout. This problem requires reform because not only does it underrepresent the minority opinion, there is also a possibility that the winner might not be the candidate with the most popular votes. In fact three U.S Presidents, Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, Benjamin Harrison in 1888, and George W. Bush in 2000, were elected with fewer popular votes, only winning the election because of the electoral votes they received. In the 2000 presidential election, George W. Bush’s 271 electoral college victory over Al Gore’s 266, prompted renewed calls for reforming the electoral college.
In this case Donald Trump passed 270 electoral college votes but Hillary Clinton received more popular votes. Even though there have been immediate reactions by the opponents of the Electoral College demanding its abolition , it is unlikely that such major change is about to happen. Looking back to history, it has been very difficult to get the necessary support in the Congress in order to try to change the traditional
The United States government prospers from a society based on representative democracy and popular sovereignty. These aspects of government are seen in the presidential election process, including caucuses and primaries. A caucus is a voting process in which representatives of candidates express their candidates ' views at a voting location prior to the citizens voting. A primary is a voting system in which registered voters vote at their specified location and do not speak to party members or representatives before casting their vote. These voting techniques are used to choose one Republican and one Democrat to represent each political party in the presidential general election.
When there is a new president we have to vote and there is a lot of that can do it. Then people from the states that can do vote and people he can 't they do not vote. Then the people who are running for it they been trying to convince people to vote for them on Super Tuesday. That is where they vote for them and try to win before November comes around. Ther is so not 2 democrats left to for running for president and there is 5 republican left to run for president.
My third amendment I want to consider changing the 12th amendment the election of the president and vice president. This amendment was created to tie the electoral college in the president and vice president election. My reasoning is that whoever can vote should be able to choose who they want as president not the electoral college. This should be abolished because this country is a democracy and the popular vote should count not the electoral votes (Debate.com). With Hillary Clinton, more than 300,000 votes ahead of President Donald Trump in the popular vote count as of the election calls have already begun to ditch the Electoral College system enshrined in the Constitution for choosing presidents (Editorial Board).
In the Republican Party there is currently three people running for President because Marco Rubio has dropped out of the election. In conclusion the Presidential Election Day in the United States of America is the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. It can fall on or between November 2 and November 8. I believe that the Presidential Election will be between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. I pray that if you able to vote I recommend you to do your and make the right choice because as I said earlier there is no turning
If there is an election that has captured the imaginations of millions of citizenly across the world, it’s the US presidential elections. The paradox is that it is not a direct election per-se where the American people elect a president directly but rather a situation where members of different states elect representatives of an electoral college which in turn elect the president and the vice president. This quadrennial event comes with disappointments and major surprises as well. The last elections led to the election of Barrack Obama as the president of the United States after facing cut throat competition from Mitt Romney. The world was taken on a tour of meticulous Campaigning coupled with jibes at opponents and revered historical speeches
The Electoral College is a process that was established by the founding fathers of the United States to elect the President of the country. It was established as a compromise between the election of the President by popular vote and election of the President by vote in Congress. The Electoral College is composed of three parts: the selection of the Electors, the Elector meeting where they cast their votes, and the counting of the votes by Congress. In this paper, I will discuss the composition of and procedures within this Electoral College system in detail. The Electoral College is composed of a total of 538 Electors, of which 270 votes are needed as a majority to elect the President.
It is functioned around making sure the people’s vote does not go to waste. As Turner said in his article, “...most call for the winning candidate to receive a popular plurality (forty percent is often mentioned) and a run-off election if that is not achieved” (414). Run-Off was made so if a vote for a certain candidate became no longer valid, as in they dropped out or got voted out, the vote would still matter and it would go onto the individual 's next suggested candidate. “Wouldn’t it be an intolerable strain to the American political system, giving rise to popular outrage and contempt… that sometime again a man with fewer popular votes than his opponent is the electoral winner? I doubt it…” (Bayh 169).
Over the years we have used electoral college to determine our presidents. Currently our system is for who ever gets the majority vote in each state gets all of that state’s electoral votes. Because of this system, there have four been presidents who actually lost the popular vote but still won the presidency. Obviously this system is flawed. There have been plans discussed to replace it.
The Presidential Election is an extremely crucial process in the United States due to the President holding so much power and representing America as a whole. Furthermore, the Presidential candidates align themselves to the Democrats or to the Republicans in order to receive votes. Additionally, “An election for President of the United States occurs every four years on Election Day, held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November” (Presidential Election). Moreover, previous Research has shown that voters tend to vote through behaviors. That is to say, voters can vote solely on the candidate’s responses to the issues they will solve for the country and those can either be what voters want to be solved or against what they assume is
Assessing Presidential Polls and Who Will Win the Presidency What presidential polls tell us Americans about the race between the candidates. The polls give the people of United States a general idea of who may win the presidential election of that year. The history of political polling has not been the most accurate in the past because the margin of error was large. Past polls have represented the wrong candidate being elected into office, in the early 1900’s and before it was not as advanced as it is today. Since the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the polls have become more accurate.
