The Sierra Club is a nonprofit environmental organization. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir. The Club’s mission statement is, To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. (Sierra Club, n.d.-a) The Club promotes environment preservation by encouraging green energy, mitigating global warming, and opposing the use of fossil fuels. This number is still probably about the same. In additional to their employees, in 2014 they had 8,955 volunteers which also need to be considered in the presentation (Internal Revenue Service, 2014). I cannot find definite information about the extent of Sierra Club’s contractor use, however, it is likely that they use contractors for many of their projects. Since they have many projects, programs, and campaigns, they probably use contractors quite extensively. Number and Location of Sites The Sierra Club has a total of 64 local chapters spread across the U.S. (Sierra Club, n.d.-b). Each chapter works in their area to advance Sierra Club’s programs. The Sierra Club national headquarters are in San Francisco, California (Internal Revenue Service, 2014).
