Pardoned or Punished? Four of the six people who have died could have been avoided if one person stood up and told someone about what was happening. In Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, Friar Lawrence and Benvolio should be pardoned, while the Nurse should be punished. Benvolio should be pardoned. In the book he wanted peace. First of all he told the capulets that they didn’t need to fight. “Part fools. Put up your swords, you know not what you do”(1.1.60). He was saying stop fighting because you don’t know what you are doing. Next he also warned the prince of what happened to Mercutio, Tybalt, and Romeo. After the fight Benvolio was the one to fess up to the prince about what happened. Benvolio told the truth about what Romeo did. Finally he told the prince that Romeo killed Tybalt because Tybalt killed Mercutio. Why would you punish someone who told the truth? …show more content…
First Friar Lawrence helped them by sending Romeo to Mantua and trying to get Juliet there with him. Next he also came up with the plan to get Juliet out of Verona “Take thou this vial, being then in bed,And this distillèd liquor drink thou off…”(4.1.90-120). In this quote he is explaining what he wants Juliet to do. He tried to help Juliet get away from her evil father. Finally Friar Lawrence tried to end the feud. He only agreed to marrying Romeo & Juliet because he thought that if he did marry them, then the feud would be over. Friar Lawrence did nothing
the Friar gave Juliet a potion. The potion was going to put Juliet to sleep for 48 hours and it will look like she is dead, everyone will think she is dead but Friar Lawrence, he did not tell Romeo of his plan which was the biggest flaw in the plan. That is the biggest reason why Friar Lawrence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and
And he left Juliet alone after she found out that Romeo had killed himself. Friar Lawrence and Romeo and Juliet had a pretty good relationship. Romeo came to Lawrence asking him to marry him and Juliet and though he did not think it was the best idea he did what the couple wanted him to do. Juliet asked him to do a favor and he planned everything she was going to also marry paris to make her dad happy but was going to run away with Romeo. Friar Lawernece says “thy love was read by rote that could not spell” (ii.3.90).
Friar Lawrence was trying to be helpful. The first reason that Friar Lawrence was to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet was because he was the one that married them in the first place. When Romeo approached Friar Lawrence seeing if Friar could marry Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare 846), Friar thought that it would end the family feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. He didn’t take the time to think about what the horrible consequences could’ve been. He was being selfish in this situation due to the fact that he just wanted people to be happy with each other, making the area more happy.
He helped keep the relationship a secret from the young lovers’ parents. He is the one that got them married and kept it a secret from the rest of the town. And it ended up with Juliet going to marry Paris but she ran away and Friar Lawrence gave Juliet poison that knocked her out for a certain amount of time and everyone thought that she was dead. Friar Lawrence was the only one that knew she was still alive. He wrote a letter to Romeo which was never sent out and Romeo didn’t get the real truth of what happened.
he is already dead; stabbed with a/ white wench's black eye; shot through the ear with a/ love-song; the very pin of his heart cleft with the/ blind bow-boy's butt-shaft: and is he a man to/ encounter Tybalt?”After being told of this letter, Benvolio is worried that with the state Romeo is in, physically and mentally, he would have no chance of winning. Benvolio then decides that it might be better if Mercutio were to fight instead. This demonstrates how Benvolio is acting as the problem
Knock knock who's there? Not Romeo because he is dead! In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there were two households that did not like each other and Romeo and Juliet get married and then people started dying. Then Romeo and Juliet kill themselves. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet should be punished and Benvolio should be pardoned for their roles in Romeo & Juliet’s deaths.
Have you ever been pushed to make a decision? Is there someone in your life who acts before thinking? In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, two love-struck teenagers were desperately in need of proper advice from trustworthy adults to prevent disaster. Friar Lawrence was one of the main characters who offered poor advice to Romeo and Juliet throughout their misadventure. First, he married Romeo and Juliet quickly after they met without their parents’ knowledge.
It is my opinion that Romeo's punishment was just right as two people died as a result of the fight. At the beginning of the story, the Prince had warned them not to fight anymore. As stated in this quote, "If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.". Even though Romeo did not instigate the duel with Tybalt it was still a violation of the Prince's warning. Romeo should have stayed away and not come back as he was very angry about the death of his friend.
“And this distilled liquor drink thou off; When presently through all thy veins shall run. A cold and drowsy humor, for no pulse,” (S.S, pg. 453). Friar Lawrence quoted that he would help Juliet fake her death. This is why Friar Lawrence is the one to blame for causing the most trouble in Romeo and Juliet. Yes, there are many other characters in the story to blame, but Friar Lawrence helped with a series of events that led to Juliet's death.
He was the one who married the two, hoping that the marriage would cause an end to the feuding. Romeo and Juliet getting married was banned and wouldn't be able to take place without Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence stupidly chose to marry Romeo and Juliet even though he knew that it would cause issues in the future. The Friar says in the beginning of the story "this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households' rancor to pure love." (II iv 91-92) This shows that the Friar has doubts and only has a small bit of hope that Romeo and Juliet's marriage will actually be successful.
Then Juliet asks Friar Lawrence to help her avoid marrying Paris and with that help or remedy, he plans on letting Juliet to fake her own death: “... And, if thou darest, I’ll give thee remedy (Doc C).” Friar Lawrence uses Romeo and Juliet to end the feud between the Montagues and Capulets even though he predicts “violent ends.” His later plans backfire and they do end up
He also tries to help Romeo in the beginning. He tries to help him get over Rosaline a girl he was in love with. He does this by making him go to a party and telling him she will be there along with every other beautiful girl. This shows he was not doing anything to try to harm Romeo he was trying to help him because he knew Romeo was sad about a girl he thought he loved. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet was not caused from Benvolio’s decisions and actions in the
Benvolio doesn’t do anything wrong and all he does is good. Romeo and Juliet are two young people who are dumb because they think they fell in love after less than a day of knowing each other. The characters in this story are dumb because they try and get married after one
Benvolio said to Romeo that, “ Signior Martino and his wife and daughters, some beautious sisters” and lovely nieces”_ and of course Rosaline, Romeo’s last love, destined for the nunnery rather than his arms”(1.2.64). This quote shows that Benvolio is cheering up Romeo so that he could go to Capulet’s party. Benvolio should be Pardoned because he was honest with prince and told him every single thing which happened. He told what happened between Romeo and Tybalt and so whose fault was that so that is why he should be pardoned.
Pardoned or Punished? “And where the offence is, let the great axe fall.” A quote by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a very heartwarming love story that ends tragically.
