Intrinsic racists believe that each race has a different moral status that are independent from moral characteristics that come from moral essences. Being the same race as someone else entails preferring that person over another who is not of the same race. For example, we have a greater moral interest in our biologically related brother than in a stranger. Intrinsic racists will never hold that someone who has greater capabilities, but is not of their race, is admirable or will receive the same treatment to someone of their own race. Oppression in the Colonies Though the colonists fled from Europe, they were still under the king’s reign. The king started to exploit his power and expose towards the colonists, first with unfair taxation without representation which means he taxed the colonists goods to help pay debts in Britain, than the intolerable acts which were laws made by the king that negatively affected the colonists but benefitted the King and Britain, along with other oppressive legislation. Oppression has been used for years by a controlling group or person as a tool to keep a certain population in line. There have been many examples of oppression being used throughout history, such as the United States’ use of slavery. In Octavia Butler’s Kindred Dana is forced to witness the tactics used by slave owners to keep slaves in line. The reader learns alongside Dana about the history of slavery, and the brutal ways that slaves were kept. Octavia Butler writes Kindred as a way to educate people on oppression and slavery, in a more modernized and obvious form.

White Privilege in America Recently in America racial tension has increased because events that’s have been occurring across the country. Across the United States (U.S.) black men have been killed by law enforcement and this has sparked protest in its aftermath. The media has started to give more time to these problems so more Americans have learned about them. This has started a conversation on different social issues that include the dominant culture, social privilege in the U.S. As a young black man this has affected me directly.
Another form of discrimination is police brutality to black minorities. Black minorities in the United states of america are beaten, violated and murdered by officers of the law that sword to protect and serve them. Police brutality is an issue that needs to be stopped. One example of police brutality was the incident regarding Michael Brown. Michael Brown was a 18 year old African American that was fatally shot by a white officer by the name of Darren Wilson.

It is a story about how three women team up to form an alliance and secretively work on a writing project that would be shunned otherwise. The film portrayed the time when segregation existed between the whites and the blacks to be specific in the early 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi. For individual discrimination, it is mainly that through our personal experiences and lessons learned and received in the past, to prejudiced another person. At the same time, institutional discrimination usually produce prejudice to the most of large institutions and organizations for part of the race and ethnic. In current society, individual discrimination is often released in the color issue today; we often are isolated by our own color. Sometimes, people who the white drive in the cars are easier to get forgiveness and understanding of police officers, but for other color race, these people usually tend to be suspects by other people. Human oppression can be defined as the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically by troubles and adverse conditions ("Dictionary.com"). There are many forms of human oppression and we will take a closer look at all of those. We will also, take a closer look at some real life examples. Furthermore, sexism can be defined as unfair treatment of people based on their sex ("Merriam-Webster.com").
Institutional discrimination is when laws favor a dominant group while minority groups are not favored, and this thought process is embedded into the norms of society. The pattern that we see in the history of Native American and African Americans is that white Americans always believed that they were the dominant race and all laws that were created, were made to favor only themselves. One idea that white Americans shared was that both ethnic groups previously mentioned were inferior and that these groups were not capable of coexisting with them. These thoughts were embedded into society early on and were the main justification for both slavery and Indian removal.
Institutional discrimination as a term explores both implicit bias and systemic disparities (this is not to say “the system” is wholly at fault. This is a societal issue people of all races need to work to solve.). Journal 1 Article: - Staten Island teen dies from asthma while fleeing racist crew waving gun; ‘I’m gonna shoot you, nigga!’ This story is taken from New York daily news June 3rd 2016. Staten Island is one out of the five boroughs in New York City. Witnesses described seeing a young teenaged boy running from a group of caucasians shouting racial statements while waving a gun. He died from an asthma attack while trying to flee from the group.
