Tim Wise’s article contains a lot of emotion and it is though the clever tactic of appealing to Logos and Pathos that Wise makes the reader really consider what he is speaking about. There is even an ethos aspect to his argument. Since Wise is a white man shaming his own race, this removes bias which in turn gives him credibility. Now to examine the Logos aspect of his argument. By using the statistic “in past two years, thirty-two young men have either carried out a mass school shooting or attempted to do so, and of these thirty-two, thirty were white teens,” Wise is using the logos aspect of a claim to really make the reader consider the gravity of the situation and take into consideration his appeal to begin profiling these kids (69).
Everyday economics and social epidemics are topics that do not come easily to many people. The job of Malcolm Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point, was to explain and teach the science of economics. Economist Steven Levitt and journalist Stephen Dubner also had the task of doing the same, but their book Freakonomics, did so differently. That difference includes several components of the book: the structure, the main focus, and the connection to the audience. The Tipping Point shows a better use of these three components and therefore, Gladwell gave the readers a better understanding of the text and the idea behind it.

Gladwell explains that while every child has a right to be curious, and to learn some have it a little easier than others.
The perception that “little things can make a big difference” motivated this reader to study Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Tipping Point”. As a future advanced practice nurse, considering all options regarding quality care and safety for patients, whether big or small, can mean the difference between a healthy life or one that is limited. Intrigued by his metaphorical language, Gladwell compares variations to contagions and explains how ideas, manufactured goods, trends, and behaviors can thrive and grow like viruses as soon as it reaches its “Tipping Point”. Questions are scattered throughout this book, encouraging the reader to reflect and apply this same concept to personal circumstances.
In every Disney movie the villain is generally portrayed as evil or crazy, and it is taken as a personality type, but Disney movies also tend to sneak in a backstory for the villain geared towards explaining how they had come to be evil. And in the end, the villain is usually convinced that they should be “good” (again). So from this perspective, it may appear more so that the villain is not a personality type but a product of the situations they were in each moment that lead to he or she becoming the villain. Malcolm Gladwell is an award winning author who constructed a theory labeled The Power of Context, a chapter in his book The Tipping Point, to prove that people, such as villains in Disney movies, are products of their situations. In essence, to be a product of situations is to be a product of context.
An interesting section in the Tipping Point is when Malcolm Gladwell goes beyond what we know about the low-down streets of New York. He talks about the crime epidemic and how it drastically changed with just a simplistic tactic. He also talks about how our environment can create us as a human being. The crimes in New York were extremely high at one point and a man name David Gunn was just the guy to change it. I was astonished how drastic he lowered the crime rate.
Malcolm Gladwell uses famous photograph in the history of the American Civil Rights Movement that was taken on May 3, 1963, by Bill Hudson to demonstrate that even though underdogs are outnumbered along the journey they learn a few things about fighting giants. In 1963 Martin Luther King came to Birmingham, Alabama to take fight against city’s racist police commissioner Eugene ”Bull” Connor. The picture taken in 1963 was of a young teenager being attacked by a police dog. The well dressed boy seeming to be leaning into the dog, his arms limp to his side, calmly staring straight ahead as though he is saying,” Take me, here I am, expresses Gladwell.” Even to this day this photo has not lost it’s power to shock.

Gladwell has been a staff writer for “The New Yorker” since 1996. According to Gladwell the main important idea in the book is something little causes a radical change. Gladwell shows you many concepts to drive the main idea.
At the beginning of the semester when I was told that we needed to write a book report about “The Tipping Point” I was yet to uncover its pages. I had no idea how inspirational this book was going to be, and how much it would transform me. As pages passed by I started feeling something inside me, I realized that something was changing and that this book was just not going to be one more in the list of read ones. Something was happing that I couldn’t yet understand. Every page stroke for a new view of the world that surrounds me and every phrase stayed to me.
In Malcolm Gladwell’s “Million- Dollar Murray” he takes on the plight of chronic homelessness. He uses Murry Barr as an example of how much money is spent on those living in chronic homelessness. Murry Barr had the larges medical bill in the entire state of Nevada; “It cost us one million dollars not to do something about Murry.” Reported officer O’Bryan. The reason for this claimed is that it might be more cost affective to take the homeless off the street and give them a home.
School shooting as the reading says, is a big issue in the U.S. I agree that all the exposure of violence on the media is one of the cause of violence in young people. I agree with rehabilitation for juveniles. If we treat people when they are young, they’re more likely to not commit crimes in the future. I disagree when the reading says that social class may influence in people violence acts because Harris was a middle class was involved in school shooting.
Ray Bradbury has written numerous novels during his lifespan of 92 years, including The October Country, The Martian Chronicles, and Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451, a novel written in 1953, is about a fictional future world where books are burned and the world has turned to violence. This is much like modern day today where violence erupts on a daily basis, and it seems that Bradbury was not far off with his prediction of the future. This essay will be discussing how the theme of violence is portrayed three times throughout the pages of Fahrenheit 451 and how those instances are able to relate back to our society today. Such instances include violence on knowledge by man, violence on man by machine, and violence on man by man.

Practice Makes Perfect Everyone has heard the saying, “practice makes perfect” at some point in their life. In the excerpt, “10,000 Hours,” Malcolm Gladwell looks at how important practice really is to becoming better at a skill. Gladwell claims that when looking at the careers of people that are “gifted,” there is less correlation between talent and more correlation between practice. Malcolm Gladwell’s “10,000 Hours” contains strong evidence that supports his findings, persuades the intended audience, and appeals to readers.
