Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a book about a girl named Melinda Sordino. In the beginning of this book the audience meets Melinda as she is the main character and she describes her first day of high school starting with an assembly. Throughout the book you read about her life but she goes back to the past recalling of something that happened at the end of the summer; in a couple of instances she comes across someone that she refers to as “IT”. When reading you don't know who this “IT” is but it is developed over the story by her having flashbacks to that night or dropping a hint of what happened. During a seminar at the beginning of the book Melinda meets someone named Heather who is new and becomes her friend but ultimately leaves her …show more content…
Most of the information is presented in a recessive way rather than a factual statement. Meaning that instead of the author coming out and stating an event or factual evidence they present it in a way that forces the reader to look for it, this is done because some information may not be needed by anyone, someone, or everyone. Lots of information in this book was useful to me in many ways. Reading the story about Melinda has shown me that sometimes, people just need someone to talk to. That even though people may act fine and seem fine they may be very distanced from true happiness because of something that happened in there past, and if they do not have someone that will listen to them then they may allow it to define their future, but, if someone is willing to just listen to them, then they may be able to get past the traumatic event(s) that they are letting define them. This book has moved me and shown me that some people need help that is as simple as listening to what they have to say. So, i am going to make sure that people know they can come to me to talk and I will listen, and not judge them in any way. Also it makes me want to get involved in support groups for those who have been through this type of event so that I may help them in any way I can, because people that have been through something that is not there fault should not suffer from

I’m not your perfect Mexican daughter by Erika L. Sanchez was a book that discussed conflicting topics. This book was a young adult fiction novel with 354 pages. It was about Julia Reyes and her life after her “perfect” sister died and her journey in finding out how imperfect she actually was. Consequently many opinions can be made for this story. In this book I liked how honest the story is.
It makes me happy to know that i 'm not the only person who has gone through what i went through. Its nice to read stories and see the different perspectives of each person and how they deal with certain things. As i said earlier, I would personally recommend this book for

Speak Journal Response The book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson creates many connections; whether they are real world, virtual or personal. This journal will explain those connections, and show my thoughts on them, as well as how they have impacted my view on different, related, topics. My first connection is about Character, between Melinda’s parents, and Qibli’s (Key-Bee) parent’s in the book Wings of Fire.
This book also showed me that people face hardships every day and live through them without you even noticing. In other words, there is usually way more to a person than what you see. I would rate this book 4.5/5
