I would say I really liked piecing the sonnet together more than anything else. At first I held a negative feeling about having to write a sonnet because I thought it was so dumb and dreaded having to deal with, not sure why I felt this way. Now looking at it I’ve discovered that it is probably one of my best piece of writing out of this whole unit or class in general. I proved myself wrong and somewhat enjoyed finding rhyming words and coming up with sentence and syllables to go along. Haikus are definitely the easiest thing to write while also holding a lot of meaning in them.
In “The Black Cat”, the narrator killed his most beloved pet cat(2). This relates to Poe’s life because the cat could represent the beloved women and family members that died in his life, even though he didn’t kill them. Also in “The Black Cat”, the narrator kills his wife(4). Even though this story was written before his wife died, this could have been him venting his worries that one day his wife will follow the same path as the other women in his life. In “The Masque of the Red Death” the text states, “And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall.”
After he attacks and kills his first cat he finds another, “It was a black cat—a very large one—fully as large as Pluto, and closely resembling him in every respect but one. Pluto had not a white hair upon any portion of his body; but this cat had a large, although indefinite splotch of white, covering nearly the whole region of the breast” (Poe 8). The cat he had maimed and killed was named Pluto, after his house burned down he saw a part of the wall that had not burned with the rest of the house, in the shape of a cat with a noose around its neck. He pushed the incident aside
In Edgar Allan Poe’s short novel “The Black Cat” the narrator unburdens his soul the night prior to his execution. He begins by describing his amiable and humane nature, and that he from childhood had a strong love for animals. He married at a young age a woman who also loved pets. Their household had numerous animals and the narrators absolute favorite was a large beautiful black cat, named Pluto after the god of the dead. They had a special bond between them that lasted several years until the man´s character changed due to alcoholism, and he became ill-tempered and abused both wife and pets.
At the beginning of the narrative the narrator states "tomorrow I die." (Poe 1) Because of this statement the reader may feel a sense of wondering as to what will happen. Although this does seem to give the ending away it still creates anxiety in the readers mind by giving them no clue as to how the narrator ends up in this position. For the longest time the patch of white hair on the narrator's second black cat was indistinct and shapeless. Very slowly, little by little the patch changed itself into a shape, a very distinct shape "of the gallows.
Poe creates mystery and suspense through the use of “Supernatural Occurrences”; however, it has been most effective in The Black Cat because the man has been haunted by his cat for a period of time and the first cat constantly shows “Supernatural Occurrences” after it dies. Mystery and suspense has been most effective in The Black Cat because it best uses “Supernatural Occurrences”, it adds revenge to the plot, and it uses “Omens, portents, visions”. Mystery and suspense proves to be most effective in The Black Cat because the story best conveys “Supernatural Occurrences”. The Black Cat tells a story about an alcoholic man who struggles with his addiction and ends up killing his cat Pluto. His cat haunts him in many ways after it’s death.
In Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "The Black Cat," the narrator becomes increasingly insane and violent, leading to the abuse and eventual murder of his wife and his beloved pet cat, Pluto. The narrator, who is an alcoholic, mistreats everyone emotionally. While in his drunken state, he started to take his anger out on his cat and wife. He grabbed the cat and cut an eye out and then hung the cat from a tree. There was a fire at the house and when he returned, the narrator saw the cat’s shadow on the remaining wall.
Now, with his favorite pet dead, the narrator feels remorse and guilt. This action continues to haunt the narrator throughout his days until he finds a cat with an uncanny
The author increases the feeling of anxiety in the story by using foreshadowing. For example, after the narrator obtains the second black cat, he notices that the white patch on the second cat’s chest is forming into something. When the narrator realizes what the shape of the patch on the beast chest is, he states, “It was now the representation of an object that I shudder to have—and for this, above all, I loathed, and dreaded, and would have rid myself of the monster had I dared—it was how, I say, the image of a hideous—of a ghastly thing—of the GALLOWS!” (Poe 4)
In these two stories Poe uses foreshadowing in way that if the reader spots the small details or Poes “word playing “ he/she can predict what will happen or get a hint of what will happen. In Black Cat there are few foreshadows. One foreshadow is when the narrator sees a cat in the wall and Pluto`s color being black is believed to be unlucky and in this story the narrator is unhappy and unlucky. The narrator gets gouth because of a cat being inside a wall.

In life some people struggle to become a good person and try to do the right thing. Some people fail with the struggle. Edgar Allan Poe “ The Black Cat” is no different than real life. The narrator has a tough life.
I had been looking steadily at the top of this hogshead for some minutes, and what now caused me surprise was the fact that I had not sooner perceived the object thereupon. I approached it, and touched it with my hand. It was a black cat, a very large one, fully as large as Pluto, and closely resembling him in every respect but one. Pluto had not a white hair upon any portion of his body; but this cat had a large, although indefinite splotch of white, covering nearly the whole region of the
“The Black Cat” was a story written by Edgar Allen Poe in 1845. The story tells a dark tale of a man’s love for animals and after heavy drinking turns tragic. The story tells the events leading up to and immediately after the murder of his cat and his wife. I believe that the most important word in this story is the word phantasm. Phantasm can mean illusion or a representation of a real object.
“The Black Cat” was written by Allan Poe. It appears that the narrator is dying the next day so he wants to open up on how his life fell apart. The narrator confesses a great love for cats and dogs. I understand where he is coming from because animals are really loyal unlike men are, men would betray you the second they get the chance.
